Blalock, did I meet you with your guys outside, rudely asking what you were doing there?

Maybe 3-4 pro-gun-control people during the (super short!) public comment period. I didn't know that nobody was recording it or I would have -- they really exposed their ignorance.

You did. We came on our own. We are all heavily pro 2A.

One black woman asked if they were planning on consulting any experts before it is too late since they obviously didn't consult anyone before hand.

I'm in shock about how Pro gun/anti owemalley the crowd was. Maybe 1 or 2 antis and they only talked about licenses.

Ha ha! This is awesome to hear! You made my night.

Thank you for going, representing us, and posting updates.

I was encouraged by the mental health and school safety provisions that 2 of the panel spoke about. They have concrete items that actually promote safety. +1

The mayor gave a good emotional speech and you have to give her her due, she did a good job articulating the cost of (illegal)gun violence on the community and families. Not that I agree with her premise. I agree we have a violence problem that manifests itself in the worst ways and frequencies with guns, but that is a symptom, not the cause. She then popped smoke and had the Chief of Police sit in. Sidenote, wow, she looked better in person than on the news!!!

The Lt Gov talked a good game, but became flustered in the end when asked about specific situations....transport of assault weapons, ability to sell, etc. To quote..."we'll have to look in to that". The gov legislative aid tried to explain something about transportation and said that it is not allowed now. There were shouts of BS; as far as I know, I can pack up my non-NFA weapons and take them anywhere they are not already prohibited and come back without a problem.

I was SHOCKED that the Superintendent of the State Police was CLUELESS about what constituted an assault weapon under MOM legislative proposals and went on TWICE about select fire NFA weapons.

The law prof on the end was nothing more than a paid shill. He kept quoting stats that, while sounding impressive, did not necessarily have a cause/effect correlation to the issues at hand. He also kept repeating himself about the need for fingerprints to prevent straw gun purchases. There was no chance to ask why fingerprints are the make or break component, as the MSP 77R-2 contains all my PII and a copy of my photo ID. What value do fingerprints offer? Do we need to piss in a cup or take a DNA swab next? I didn't get it.

    Personal observations.
    - None of the questions I submitted on the RSVP form were asked. Maybe they just looked at them in order to preempt some of our positions/question
    - I was surprised at the number of our citizens of color that were against this initiative. Shame on me for prejudging.
    - I think we all came away with the impression that, regardless of your position, this legislation is technically flawed and not well thought out. The big question is what they will do about it.
    - This was nothing more than a sham for bad legislation that will pacify the ignorant into thinking that something has been done. It will make a good soundbite for the MOM for President and Anthony Brown for Governor campaigns, but will have draconian affects on otherwise principled, law-abiding citizens.
    - Not a peep about funding things, encouraging prosecutors and judges to enforce rather than plea bargain away firearm charges, education initiatives, expanding employment opportunities, addressing the economics of the drug trade (the largest reason people are killed with a firearm), etc. We shouldn't expect the long term, resource intensive policy choices that will actually address root causes. We will be left with the "knee jerk, feel good until next time when we'll take more things away" legislation.
    - Finally, what may have been intended as an easy win turned out to be not so much. Although the room was filled to capacity, I thought that there would have been more of us attending to clearly demonstrate our opposition. I hope that next week is vastly different.

    Confirmed

He flat out said that the law was for select fire weapons capable of burst fire. Audience member asked for clarification. He said it was to guns that allow multiple rounds to be fired for each pull of the trigger.

Let me also add that the room erupted after MSP Secretary Marcus Brown made this erroneous claim. It was clear at that point that the night was not going in their favor. Unbelievable!

Good showing tonight, guys and gals! Glad to have had the pleasure of meeting and briefly chatting with a couple of you in the parking garage line afterwards. I believe one was you, occ. I hope to see you all again next Wednesday.

I have a few additions to what has been written on this thread and others.

The Col. Marcus Brown situation went like this... the very first question was from a black woman who was probably in her 30's. Shame on me for expecting this to be an anti question. She said there had been a lot of confusion about what an assault weapon actually was and was curious if they could define it for her. "is it an ar-15? a colt ar-15?" Col Brown proceeds to tell her that it is a gun that is capable of firing multiple bullets for each press of the trigger. Audience gasps. Thinks he misspoke. She asks for clarification. "So you're talking about fully automatic weapons? Not the ones where it's just one bullet for every trigger pull?" That's right. The ones that fire multiple bullets every time you pull the trigger. fully automatic. They are also capable of burst fire.

Audience loses its collective shit. An aide to someone, I think owemalley or Lt. Gov, states that they will 'look into it.' LOLOLOLOL.

Before that, like others have said, it was a huge circle jerk with every member of the panel talking about how proud they were of the legislation and of owemalley. The mayor regurgitated Glorious Leader's speech about how the people in Aurura had their right to assemble violated, etc, etc. Also quoted our friend Gabby by saying we had to be brave. After her speech, she promptly left. The circle jerk lasted about 1hr to 1-1/2 hrs. I have to say that I thought the crowd was going to be mostly anti, but boy was I proven wrong. Very, very diverse crowd STRONGLY in opposition to this bill. It was fantastic. We were able to watch them make a big ado about what they have done and what they will do. Lt. Gov flat out said the purpose of the town halls was to "Get feedback on the safety proposal and to make it even stronger and even better." This was followed by the entire audience taking this bill out behind the woodhouse for the next 30 minutes. awesome.

    A few other highlights...

I sit immediately behind two Baltimore City police officers in their dress uniforms. I hear one ask the other what a 'thumbhole stock' is. I shake my head. The other office doesn't know either. I lean forward and tell them it is a regualr rifle stock with a place to slip your thumb in. I say, "It's what the olympic shooters use." I proceed to pull up a picture. The office says, "OH... like the guys on skis who shoot in the olympics?"

yes. exactly. That is what they are banning. So not only does the Colonel not know what the bill is banning, the Baltimore City officers who are apparently being outgunned by these menacing weapons and features HAVE NEVER EVEN SEEN THE FEATURES BEFORE.

Opening slide from the Colonel stating that they are "restricting magazine capacity to a size suitable for self defense." Funny. Baltimore City police and MSP both carry Glock 22's with 15 round standard issue magazines. Last time I checked, their weapons were intended for defensive use, not offensive. i don't see why a trained officer needs 15 but a mom needs 10. But I digress...

FBI agent and instructor stating that the government has advised citizens to have 3 days worth of supplies in the event of a major catastrophe, natural disaster or terrorist attack. Point out that it is absurd to limit a citizen's choice of firearm and arbitrarily limit his ammo capacity given that warning from the US Govt.

Veteran telling the panel that, "No offense, but you are the second responder, not the first responder. In my house, I'm the first responder." Classic.

Lawyer telling them that fed courts have upheld that you can't tax a right, which is what licensing seeks to do.

Woman pointing out the panel's own statistics stating that the majority of firearms used in crimes are obtained illegally. Asks what purpose fingerprinting the people who purchase legally would serve. No answer.

Woman who looks like a professor asking if the panel intends on consulting any experts on the subject since they are already in the 11th hour and apparently didn't do so before writing the bill. LMAO. LT Gov responds by saying they will have more town halls. wow.

This was obviously intended to be a big back slapping, look at what we are doing for you extravaganza. They spent the majority of the time talking themselves up and were anticipating a bunch of sheeple showing up and telling them thank you. That's not what happened. If they were taking the temperature on their new bill, the thermometer was broken tonight. The LT. Gov literally stopped talking for most of the question and answer portion. he was embarrassed. They didn't know the facts of their own bill and it is becoming MORE AND MORE obvious to the common citizen that these proposals have no basis in fact, finding or study. They are simply based on emotion and at best, anecdotal evidence (well, we think this will help!). Owemalley and his goons are trying to ride a wave of support that doesn't exist. They gave out their propoganda at the beginning that said the majority of Maryland residents support an AWB. Problem is, they have no CLUE what an assault weapon is. And who can blame them when someone like Colonel Brown is spewing lies and misinformation to the crowd. The mayor even said in her speech, "we must ban AUTOMATIC weapons."

It's closing time and the ugly lights are coming on. People are starting to realize what they are about to take home with them...

As the emotion of Newtown wears off and this bill is dragged into the daylight, the only people supporting it are the fanatical anti gun liberals and the truly ignorant. If the other town halls go like this and we show up with 2k+ people in Annapolis, it will be VERY VERY obvious to a lot of people that this is EXTREMELY unpopular. If we keep up the pressure and the backlash in NY continues, it is going to be harder and harder for people to stand behind this trash legislation. The ANTI's could easily bring us into the fray if they would simply drop these arbitrary AWB/MAG restrictions and licensing/fingerprinting requirements and start focusing on straw purchases, criminal plea bargains/good time credits and the mentally ill.

There is a common ground, but they'll never see if if they keep standing in the same place.

    comrades,

glorious ministry of dictionaries makes glorious announcement,

new definition of "select fire" is now:
ability to select between safe and semi.

also remember Friday is purple Friday. comrades not wearing purple must report to mass graves.

    that is all.

    :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Didn't catch this while at the meeting... made my night.

I am really surprised, as I thought the Pro Gun crowd would have been way outnumbered at that event. I cannot wait to stand with all of you in Annapolis.

The mayor gave a good emotional speech . Sidenote, wow, she looked better in person than on the news!!!

Be careful, don't be drawn towards the light! :innocent0

That's all that the chief's of police are, political hacks or paid shills!

Like everyone else tonight, I am very glad to hear how tonight's meeting went. It'll be interesting to read how it's covered in the press tomorrow & how the officials will spin their failure.
