When faced with the same choice a few months ago, I went with the Gen 4 Glocks. Even though the M&P had a better trigger and looked better, the Gen 4 had a better overall feel and balance for me. The proven reputation and bigger after market for the Glocks sealed the deal.

I went Gen 4 over Gen 3 because the grip texture felt more secure. I was also confident Glock worked out their spring and ejector issues.

After getting Gloxworks triggers on my pistols, I know I made the right choice.

    I have 3 MP's and 1 Glock.

The Glock doesnt work as it should yet.

The compacts are great for concealment.

I've tried to like Glocks...sadly I started with Gen 4 G19 which likes to eject brass in my face.

I have 11 Glocks , that I shoot. A lot, and 2 M&P's collecting dust in my safe..:D Contact Glock, they will send you the new "30274" ejector to fix the "brass in the face issue".

I've been thinking about this a lot lately as well. Both my Glocks have been 100% in over 10k rounds. Can't ask for much more than that. All this talk of Gen 4 failures (mine are gen 3) are probably blown out of proportion...since it's the internet. People don't go to Glocktalk and other sites to say their glocks are working great, usually. It is expected. The threads are always about the failures.

I think it's been well established that some of the 9mm Gen 4 Glocks had extractor/ejector/RSA issues...whatever. They may or not be resolved. I'm considering a G21 SF vs G21 Gen 4...so the gen 4/gen 3 issue isn't as big since it's a .45 model and they've been pretty solid.

That being said, a lot of people REALLY like the feel of the M&P. The ergos are nice. I've only shot about 50 rounds through one...and it did feel good. My only gripe was the trigger. I shoot mostly glocks so I am used to/prefer that distinct, audible and tactile trigger reset. But apparently they fixed that on the M&P shield, and that trigger will soon be making its way to the full M&P line. I'd say hold both, see which feels better, and go with it.

    Gen 2 Glock :party29:

The grips (ridges between the fingers) on the Gen 3 & 4 just don't feel right to me.

The M&P feels good to me, but I have no reason to switch platforms.

I agree. I'd like to find a clean Gen 2 Glock in 9mm.

Mine had the new parts from the factory with a build date of 04/12

Still was getting hot brass to the face 1-2 rounds a magazine using everything from 115 garabage ammo to 147 HP rounds.

Sent it back..they said no issues found...I'll see when I shot it again.

i can't make up my mind...

i was going to purchase either one in 357sig

and then get a stock 9mm barrel for both for target practice/range....

AHHHHHHHH help me make up my mind!

In my humble opinion you shoulod go with a Gen 3 Glock and not look back. I have a (Gen 1) 17 and a (Gen 3) 26 and dearly love them both. M&Ps are good pistols too, but for my money (and life) give me a Glock any day!

Glock is the original and the one that all others copied...in one way or another.

That's not really a valid point though. I mean the Ford Model T was the first and every car since then has copied it in one way or another, but at no point would I recommend a Ford Model T to anyone.

I'm not saying you shouldn't get a Glock, both the Glock and the M&P are damn good guns. But "Glock came first" isn't really a good reason to buy one.

Not exactly true, striker fired pistols have been around far longer than Glock has been, I have a 1908 Colt that's striker fired, production date of 1919. :)

My Glock 32 in 357 SIG is my standard CCW gun.. That says a lot, considering that I have many to choose from.

The only mod it required was the addition of Tritium sights. This is a pistol that does not know the meaning of " malfunction"

I think Brad shot this gun sometime ago...Besides, If you are like me and cant keep anything stock ( range toys) , you cant go wrong with a Glock. Most add ons are cheap and can be done at home with simple tools.

I bought the M&P 9c because I liked the way it felt in my hand compared to the Glock 19. They are both great weapons and there is no right or wrong answer to this question. You won't regret buying the one you choose, both will go bang every time...

Don't think I've scratched .357 Sig off my list yet, I've got time in with your 1911, but that's about it...

I need some NFA fun, today was my b-day and I didn't get to go to the range... :sad20:

I have a G19 gen4 that used to eject brass into my face as well. I took it to a glock armorer at a recent Glock Shooting Sports Foundation event in PA and he installed an upgraded ejector. It was at least twice as thick. Now it send brass so far away from me I have trouble picking out mine from people in lanes at the range next to me! YMMV, but best part was that it was a free swap. You might want to look into that if brass is hitting your head.

I was torn between the two as well... I ended up buying Glocks.

Cheaper to buy, cheaper to upgrade (if needed), 15 min youtube video and i detail strip it, I shoot it just fine for what it is (it aint no 1911 ;) ) I can beat it to hell and wont mind if it gets scratched up.

    Currently own a G21 Gen3 and a G36. G30 is next on my list and maybe a G17 or G19.
