I'm very confused...I thought all post-2013 7.62x39mm AK rifles are illegal in MD? (I know that AK pistols in the same caliber are still GTG.)

This is not considered a “clone” because it has no interchangeable parts. If you tried to use any other part as was mentioned it will explode.
I’m really not sure how it’s MD legal, but that’s the explanation I got my the place that sold it to me.
If you go to Atlantic Firearms they say it’s illegal. But I was about to buy one through the legal channel at Tyler Firearms.

    Eff dat.

Just go buy an AK pistol now and an AK rifle later.

I got the AK Mini Pistol.

    Good thing I bought three AK's pre'13.

I don’t know much about AKs except that I want one (wolverines). There seems to be a ton of conflicting views online about what to look for. Of the AKs that are available on the market now, which would you recommend and why?

I assume there will be a short window between when the ban gets struck down and when the MD legislature tries new shenanigans to make it impossible to get one, so I’m looking for something easy to buy, not rare holy grails.
+1 for arsenal if you have no budget. But PSA has great budget options and the blems are even cheaper

Greetings from a (soon to be) fellow MoCo resident. (And yes, I would have rather stayed on the VA side of the line.)

Personally, I'm not so certain that FSA 2013 will be going anywhere any time soon. Now that Wes Moore is about to become governor, and with all of the recent Democratic attempts nationwide to impose new gun bans, I'm at least counting on similar restrictions being attempted here. They'll fail, but those efforts will also slow the momentum for loosening existing gun laws, because those of us on the pro-RKBA side will be on the defensive for quite some time.

With that being said, what caliber AKs are you looking for? As I'm sure you've heard, 5.45 and 5.56 AK rifles are still legal in MD (as long as they're not made by Kalashnikov) - just not 7.62 AKs. And AK pistols in all calibers are still legal. You might even be better off buying an AK in 5.45 or 5.56 even if you weren't living in MD.
Me too. I’ll believe it when I see it

I have way too much hatred for MD to think the 2013 abomination is goin any damn where before Hell freezes over

Not legal in MD if purchased after 2013, according to MSP. (However, the Norinco Type 84 in 5.56 is apparently legal.)

Side note: I own a Poly Tech AKS-762 which I bought in 2004, and which is currently back home in NC (where I am originally from). It's my only AK, and I like it, though my one annoyance with it is that the forward lower grip half has a metal pin that gets really hot when fired for a long period of time.

Ditto. I'm so annoyed I had to move to MD. I'm just hoping that some day, when my fiancé and I eventually buy a house, we'll be able to move back across state lines. (Not optimistic there, either, as she's an MD native and wants to stay.)

Only problem is...good luck finding mags if you don't have a friend in VA to buy them for you. AK mags can be found in any gun store in VA; VZ mags, on the other hand, are harder to come by.
Gunbroker has/had some Fab Defense 10rd mags to get folks by until they could get standard capacity mags elsewhere.
