Hey guys, I want to get my girlfriend into shooting and she wants to go to the range with me, but I'm not sure letting her shoot 9mm or 40 would be the best to build her confidence up. She's never shot a gun before

What would you recommend to buy for her? I'm not looking to spend a whole lot.

Also, is ammo really that hard to find. I have yet to see any on store shelves when I grab my 40 and 9 ammo. I'd hate to have a gun I can't even find ammo for

    Ruger american rimfire.

    Can be had for ~$300.

Accurate rifle that is easy to hit the target with. Bolt action which will likely minimize ammunition usage and teach discipline.

Depends on what you intend to use it for. If you're just after a nice target pistol, the Ruger MKII/III are a nice, inexpensive target pistol, (but a pain to reassemble after cleaning without the user manual). If you want something more like a standard pistol (shorter barrel length) then there are .22 versions of larger caliber handguns to choose from as well as .22 conversion kits If you're near on target or another range with handgun rentals you can try out the rental .22s to see if you have a preference based on the feel and handling. Of course they have a limited selection available for rent.

I've had a Ruger MKII for about 30 years and I love it! Very accurate and fun too shoot.
Dicks Sporting Goods had 22 ammo last week (box of 40 for $2.49, limit of 2 boxes) I also got a couple of bulk boxes from Walmart 2 weeks ago so it's starting to show up here and there

Anybody have the Browning 1911-22? I'm decide between it and a SR-22 right now. I have held the SR-22 but I have not got to hold the Browning yet to see how I like it
