Why would they not want a cop there to protect children?

It sends, in their minds, the wrong message.

Police should be lovey-dovey types who don't shoot people. Guns make people shoot people, so they are bad.

How about a more sinister motive:

They want someone to come in and kill more children with guns. They can say "See, even the cops were there and they couldn't protect your children. We must ban guns."

They sacrificed the truth at Sandy Hook in order to perpetuate the story they wanted. They know they need wide spread support for banning "assault weapons" which they don't have now. A few more school shootings should do it.

I believe in personal accountibilty, not lovey-doveyness.

If any party crosses the criminal line and somone is injured or killed, no matter their intention, they need to account for their action via due process.

Careful there.....there are many here who don't like to dabble in conspiracies...the same ones who believe they can convince liberals to allow CC by writing letters, quoting stats and holding rallies...after all, why would our current government want to exploit such a tragedy? (yes that's sarcasm)
