Take that stuff out on the street where it belongs.
They might as well abolish the 'department'.
And do what with the 8 million dollar budget? Buy more trash cans?
Put real cops in the schools ?
8mil for 75 officers is 106k per officer. The loaded cost for a BPD officer 5-10 years in should be in the 120k range. It would be cheaper to do what many other jurisdictions do and to just train and place regular officers for school duty.
Did you divide 8/75?
If so that doesn't include their vehicles, repairs, equipment, buildings, training, etc.
Mt. Airy is thinking of starting their own 4-6 member department for about a million a year projected.
Currently MSP is charging the town almost 1 million for the few resident troopers that are assigned there.
Just to give some idea of actual cost.
Well if that is correct DC can get rid of its Library Police and roll them into MPD. What you say mpdc4511?, how would you like the Library Cop as back up? LMAOFirst year salaries seem to be about 44k rising into the 60k range within 5 years. Loaded cost, iow including pension bennies and training they should run around 120-125k. That is the number used for many grant programs.
Using BPD officers wouldn't require new station houses, command structures or anything of that sort. The department is under-staffed as-is and I doubt it would cost a penny to give them a locker at the respective stationhouse. They could also do the job with less officers as there is no need to have additional staff to cover absences/vacations.
There is a big difference between standing up a new agency with a chief and support staff and hiring additional officers into an existing understaffed agency under what amounts to a grant program.

Any business man knows this makes sense. All these silly little departments should be rolled up. NYC did this in the 90s, not that they have the greatest police, but at least they don't have 'transit' or 'housing' cops running across the city just because it falls under their jurisdiction.
The flat out truth is that unless there is an immediate armed response to a violent threat, the threat will be successful in causing harm. The best way to provide for an immediate armed defense is to give teachers a legal pathway to carry...with a school specific training program and licensing.

What a crock of $#!^. They will never see or understand the mistake they are making. It will always be the gun's fault in their eyes.
Agreed which is why it makes financial sense for the city to consolidate agencies and command structure. Maryland law on this being unarmed schools when assigned to the school is crap. It is dangerous for the officers, dangerous for the students and faculty, and dangerous for the public. They are REAL Police Officers. They have the same academy training along with BPD. Baltimore City School Police are called to do patrol, for OT of course, when BPD needs it, and they work right along side BPD patrol officers during most weekends at the Inner Harbor.
The Baltimore City School Police aren't "Special Police", they did their 26 weeks of academy and have their Maryland Police Training Commision card.
Any thread about cops will always have Traveller and Inigoes. Its like having a nice get together with your friends at a pub and some uninvited dude sits and your table and shits himself farting.
