Today is the day to try to get a Loch Raven boating permir. I've been here since 4:30a and have about 40 people ahead of me.

Anybody else waiting? Anybody know how many permits are available this year?

They open at 6:00, I will find out soon enough.

Is there a limited number being handed out to wait in line that early?

Yes. The only permits available are from people who had permits last year and did not renew.

Nobody ever knows how many there will be.

I'm almost at the gate. The first guys in are just leaving

    Yow, Loch Raven Midnight Madness.

I remember lining up pre-dawn for Assateague camping permits. And then Internet reservations killed all chances to grab a spit last minute on a good weather weekend.

Is the fishing that good there to wait in line for 2 days for a boat permit or I am missing something?

For me it's as much about convenience. I live 5 min from the fishing center. I can store my boat there and pull it in whenever I want.

We hike and fish Loch Raven on a regular basis already.

It is definately worth getting up at 4am. It's also worth camping out all night if my boys remember it.
