Looks like part of the hammer assembly is worn. The safety does work to an extent, but if you move the hammer with the trigger pulled the hammer will drp

On my M48A,
There are [1] (box 1) stamps and some BK stamps so I take it, that's a #1 Whopper meal on the Burger King menu?

I broke it down and cleaned it up tonight.
No surprises.
I think the majority of the scars and scratches on the stock came from storage and transport.
Bore is Minty, crown edges are pretty good.

I left the sight hood off so I can drift the front sight at the range if needed.
Gonna soak the front end in some penetrating oil just in case.

I gotta tell you - no offense intended but after seeing everyone's pictures and hearing descriptions, I am glad I skipped a SOG rifle and spent $25 more for an M48 at an online auction.

Yup, yours looks really nice.
Looking at your muzzle, it looks like it got a recrown job. Its nice and sharp. It should shoot well if the action is snug in the stock.

M48A came in from SOG. Paid the extra $20 for Handpick and matching (does it really make a difference?)
Mine came with a used sling, appropriate for the condition of the M48a
Looks matching, just checked barrel,bolt and floor plate. Definitely NOT unissued.
Cosmoline in all the right places it looks like. Will have to tear it down another time.

Looks nice! They are refunding my fee for matching numbers, but refused to refund my handpick fee on the cracked and broken handguard. Oh well, as long as it shoots good I will be happy.

"BK" is a military acceptance stamp and means "Military Control"

Here is something interesting to look for also:

Many Yugoslavian rifles have been refurbished once or even many times. The easiest way to determine if your rifle has been refurbished is the remove the barreled action from the stock. On the barrel near the receiver will be a 3 or 4 digit number. This is the assembly number. The same number should be repeated on the underside of the bolt handle. If both numbers match, the rifle has its original bolt. If not, then the bolt is a replacement, even if the serial number on it matches the receiver (it's been renumbered). If there is a punch mark after the assembly number, the rifle has been refurbished. If there is more than one punch mark, then the rifle has been refurbished more than once.

Haha. I'm going to have to do mine, too. I just learned about that this evening.

My RGuns Vz 24 had an insanely heavy trigger pull. I replaced the firing pin spring (the one it came with was insanely stiff and a good bit longer than the replacement) and sear spring with replacements from Numrich. I swapped the original sear spring with a bolt sleeve lock spring. (very similar spring, just shorter/lighter) Now the pull is much nicer and everything functions correctly.

Very happy with my $180 Chilean Modelo 1895. Bluing is pretty worn and the stock has been sanded a bit, but all numbers match except the safety and the rear sight spring and the bore is bright and only slightly worn. Should be a great shooter that will allow me to make my other one a safe queen.

I'm even happier with my $260 Swede M96. All matching (cocking piece, safety and bolt end are arsenal force matched), strong nitre bluing on the bolt release and rear sight base, pristine bore and untouched stock. The rear sight insert is for the M1938 but I will play with it while I look for a replacement.
