But 2A Tuesday only got like a dozen people out there until SB281. Be real: the community organizes best in response to a clear and present threat. Maybe that's not how it should be, but that's how it is. Frosh stops generating those huge terrible threats, we stop growing as much. Again, not how it should be, but that's how it is.

    1. This year will be our first 2A Tuesday. Past events were specifically about concealed carry, which far fewer people care about, and which people weren't threatened with losing. I only attended the last Open Holster Rally, and the turnout was absolutely dismal.

    2. Last year, we were reactive. Yes, we got huge turnouts and yes we had good results, but we did so on short notice while in panic mode because SB281 had ramifications for all gun owners in Maryland, not just those who'd like to carry. With more lead time, we likely would have had far larger numbers and been much more effective.

    3. That's why we started 2A Tuesday. More time to organize, more groups involved, issues impacting more people. People will be pissed off about SB281 for a long time, and I personally know half a dozen people who went out and bought their first ARs because of it. (I'm one of them.) Couple that energy with sufficient planning, and amazing things can happen.

Having said all of that, I think that 2A Tuesday in 2014 will primarily be a show of force on our part. We caught a few legislators saying that last year was a fluke, or that they weren't afraid of us coming back this year. Time to prove them wrong. Any real legislative push would likely start in 2015 after the GA elections where we (hopefully) vote out some of the people who voted for SB281 in the first place.

    Time will tell.

    EDIT:
    Newton was the catalyst.

Yup. They likely had at least the framework of SB281 sitting in a desk drawer somewhere waiting for the right moment.

Illinios did with a violence $25 tax on each purchase.

I still don't understand that one.

Does the $25 give people the freedom to be violent, or automagically make it so they won't be????

    ;)

As for what became FSA13... These were a number of things they've wanted to do for several years, but after Aurora and Newtown the rush was put on to throw together as many ideas as they could, and try to force it through.

If they try something like that this session, it'll take a lot more than a ragtag band--or even a few thousand--coming to Analpolis (City of Sphincters). We'll need a combination of contacts and physical presence like we've never seen.

IMO, we're in a much better position than ever before, and we're setting the stage for a possible housecleaning in 2014. But we have to start now.

I've said it several times, but it bears repeating...

There is a change in the air, and the people are getting increasingly agitated. It's on us to use that to our advantage.

Yup. The gun control Democrats in the GA have been doing us lots of favors with their fiscal policy. More and more people are beginning to see through Marty's lies and realize that they're getting the living daylights taxed out of them for no good reason. They're pissed and they want them out.

My point was more that MSI has had rallies in Annapolis before 2013, and they were a little sad to see pictures of for lack of attendance. (No, I wasn't there. I am stating fact, not casting blame.) I very much disagree that they were all about concealed carry, albeit that was more of a focus.

I don't know if I agree with you, but I hope you are correct. I think you are drastically underestimating the role that the panic had in getting people out, versus simple lead time.

I hope you are correct. Certainly, I will be trying to come out (albeit my wife is due that day...). My concern is that it won't work without the panic, but I am a little wary of people here trying to artificially generate that panic through rumor and misinformation. Make sense?

Yup. They likely had at least the framework of SB281 sitting in a desk drawer somewhere waiting for the right moment.
It's a fact. They had tried to pass an AWB in 2011 and it failed pretty badly. SB281 had many similarities to that bill. Just a historical note.

Without getting too deep in the weeds, MSI was not the same before 2012 as it is now.

We saw a lot of changes coming, and needed to modify the approach.

"Carry" was too limiting a focus for what we were seeing, so the "general 2A" message was brought to the front. Since then, when combined with broader and additional attendance across the state, was instrumental in the turnout we saw last year, even on short notice.

When we were able to team with other groups (most notably AGC), it got even better.

This year (and we'll have some additional announcements very soon), we are already spreading the word across the map, and have even more support from statewide organizations.

Name change would help a lot, I suspect, but that's shockingly tricky to pull off from a legal standpoint (we investigated it for my synagogue... not fun). I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what MSI does this year - there's a lot of current problems to resolve, even without considering the stuff that may happen in the next session.

We're looking forward to having you alongside us.

    All of you.

    It won't work, otherwise.

Plan D? Not worth the hassle.
They will come after on time release, registration of existing firearms, who knows what else.

And Smigiel thinks he can get Utah reciprocity because in his words "liberal socialists don't know what honoring Utah permits would mean."

WTF? Like they can't google it? Good job advertising your plans to the world.

I can assure you that it will fail and they already know.. but let them think otherwise-- we need people to show up...

And the bill is already filled I would bet so its no secret.

Bottom line it called politics -- let him do his thing..
