Glad to be here. I'm learning a lot from searching through the forums. Looking to purchase my first handgun. Would the Springfield XDM's be a good beginner handgun?

Hello and welcome. My first handgun was a revolver and my second was an XDm9...very nice semi-auto. I like mind, but I bought it because it fit my smallish hands. You should buy the one that fits your hand, or that you shoot best, based on rental guns you have tried.

most if not all of the name brand (glock, S&W, ruger, springfield, beretta, sig, etc) guns are pretty good these days (reliable and accurate). suggest you call around and find a range that will let you rent a bunch of guns and try them out, prob the best way to figure out what you like best. blue ridge arsenal out in chantilly, va does this but you may be able to find a similar range closer to you.

I'm leaning towards getting a 1911 since it has a history with the country of my birth. Also, I'm also considering getting a RIA 1911 based on the good reviews found in this forum.
