Don't confused misunderstanding it with trying to wish it away. Nearly every politician that puts any sort of real effort into infringing on the 2A gets briefed on the reality of it, and merely play dumb for some of that sweet, sweet Bloomberg cash and to check a few boxes for DNC ladder-climbing. They all understand it just fine.
