Do you know what would be cool? An organized firearm carry march, right there in the middle of the DC Mall. I'd go.
so reading Chief Lanier's memo, is it going to be SOP to stop everyone carrying and check their "papers," or perhaps (hopefully) she just means if they were already stopped for a crime or the like?
Yes, but now if DC law allows carry-so does the NPS property. See the CC Reform act of 2009. If it's legal in the jurisdiction, legal on an NPS Unit (their term in the law) except where workers are working like a visitors center or concession area.

just hope a stay isn't issued while you are still in DC. I'd get going while the going is good.
Still, Police Chief Cathy Lanier issued an order Sunday instructing D.C. police not to arrest District residents carrying registered handguns in public places, a spokeswoman from the Metropolitan Police Department confirmed. Police were also told not to arrest people from other jurisdictions for carrying handguns in public if they are abiding by their home state's laws and are not a convicted felon. But because the government is seeking a stay, police could return to enforcing the ban soon.
Someone needs to take a picture at Constitution Avenue and 2nd Street, Freedom Plaza, and the Supreme Court.
You want to ride down and do it together?
Where do we meet?
A group picture in front of the Supreme court would be awesome
Wear a suit and tie...we're respectable gun owners! Besides, the pic may end up on the front page of some newspapers.

Going by the news story on Fox a little while ago, if you are legally licensed to carry a handgun in your own state, it's ok to carry in DC. Not saying that is fact, but that is what was reported.
That being the case for us Marylistaners, it might be prudent to confirm or refute this apparent caveat before you strap on your IWB or OWB and run down to DC particularly since the vast majority of us are not allowed to carry in our own gulag...er... state.
I don't know who is doing fact checking, but apparently no one in the MSM. The directive simply states if you are legally allowed to possess (not prohibited) you may carry. No permit is required. I'll post the relevant portion of the directive again. See paragraph 3
.
The Supreme Court has its own Police Dept. Probably a better idea to do the carry at 2nd and Constitution idea. That way we won't need the suit for our funeral after being shot by a Federal officer with super limited authority.
