Don Jr. is a CMP competitor, so the 1911 thing is at least on his radar. Since President-elect Trump seems to use his sons to gauge gun community mood, we might see something happen.

    Auction only? Wow!

I believe they only got 10,000 and on first come basis they would be sold out in day or two. They have something like 250,000 customers and some years ago before the .22 cartridge shortage started they sold over 2,000 cases (that is ten bricks per case) in less than a day. The recent sale of M1 Carbines is another example, gone in two days.

Here is an official update on the status of the 1911's from the CMP web site:
10/15/16 An update on the 1911’s…

The CMP is NOT authorized to receive or disburse the 1911s at this point. We have not yet received the approval required from the Secretary of the Army by the legislation.

    Thank you,

Many of the AGC ( www.associatedgunclubs.org) clubs are CMP affiliated as is MD State Rifle and Pistol Association ( www.msrpa.org ). You will need to belong to a CMP affiliated organization to make a purchase.

Like another poster stated, many belong to Garand Collectors Society.

Question: Is the Garand Collectors Society a CMP affiliate, so that I can make a CMP purchase? Isn't it the one that many go to for that purpose?
    Thanks!

Here is a link to all their affiliated clubs:
    https://ct.thecmp.org/app/v1/index.php?do=clubSearch

Do a search on your state to see if you may already be in an organization. Also remember things like VFW, American Legion, etc also qualify. Check the CMP web site.
In addition to shooting clubs, the CMP also has several special affiliates. Membership in these organizations satisfies our requirement for purchase. These special affiliates include: Congressionally chartered veterans' organizations such as the VFW, AL, DAV, MCL, etc. U.S. Military services (active or reserves), National Guard, to include retirees. Professional 501(c)3 law enforcement organizations and associations such as the FOP, NAPO, NSA, etc. The Garand Collector's Association is a CMP Affiliated Club. You can download a Garand Collector's Association Application Form.

Note: Club membership IS required for purchase of rifles, parts, and ammunition.

Club membership is NOT required for instructional publications or videos or CMP memorabilia.
