I would not call it BS. Here is a photo of the carbines from the CMP warehouse being unpacked to be shipped out to those who bought them (note the order sheets on top of the rifles).

I was at the CMP Custom Shop for a class and we had a chance to tour all the facilities.

After each one is inspected and test fired, they go into the racks for shipping. Each tag has the buyer's information on it.

If they ever decide to turn loose those Colt SAA Artillery models that were in the HHC 1st Cav. Div. arms room, way back when I was in, people are going to need some DEEP pockets! There were several racks of artillery models and a couple racks of 1860 Colt's and yes, they were the real deal originals! Most of the 1911's were rebuilt more than once but there were some pristine 1911's that were mostly reserved for General Staff officers. I was issued one of the Remington Rand's. Wish I still had the serial number of that one, I would love to track it down and buy it!

Im still on the fence, but leaning toward trying to get one. SO FAR, CMP has always sent me good stuff. My Springfield is a nice Early WW2, the two H&Rs are very nice.

I sent in my lottery ticket for an LMR IH Garand last year and my order got there late on the 2nd day because USPS cant deliver overnight on time. But, I ended up getting a Field Grade LMR instead of a service grade but the gun I received is really quite nice. Better than I expected.

I put in another lottery ticket for an M1 Carbine and was lucky again. I got a late '45 that Id have easily paid $ for in a shop.

Maybe its foolish, maybe my luck will run out but I might just give them a shot.

I don't see anything that resembles a NM gun in there. All appear to be 1911 framed guns and no 1911-A1 framed guns as far as I can see. Hell, there's even one in there with fairly recent Colt commercial grip(s).

There are several with replacement grips that I noticed. Most do look like 1911's. The one with the newer Colt grips appears to be a 1911A1. I'm not certain about the NM, I am just going by what little I can see of the front sight that appears to be slightly higher and notched. I would be just like a kid in a candy shop if I were there!

I r'member seeing the one with the front site you speak of but in that mess it would be too difficult to make any accurate determinations of any gun without going through it one atta' time. I'd be NOT inclined to get my hopes up on a primo all original piece in a pile of surplus "a step above scrap" like that.

Interesting mix of 1911 and 1911A1 parts. A couple with flat mainspring housings but short triggers and a couple with arched mainspring housings and long triggers.

    OK,
    Who is hopeful?
NRA needs to turn in some chips to the Don and get this rolling.
Lets throw in the South Korea, and Philippine Garands while we are at it.

I'm hopeful, but those guns are not going to be the bargains I think people expect.

What will get interesting is a thaw in relations with Russia. The Russians are sitting on large stocks of captured German arms, particularly pistols. And the U.S. collector market will absorb all of them.

I hope we see some of these import restrictions lifted... Especially for these military surplus firearms but for SAIGA rifles too. Remember 299 dollar Saigas? 'member?

I'd say that CMP sales are pretty low on the new administration's agenda. It will probably be a year or so before the import restrictions are lifted. The current 1911's approved for sale will probably be auction only.
