I have wanted a Mini-14 for years - finally decided, the hell with it and bought one today. It's a Ruger Mini-14 Tactical in 5.56 (Model 5848). Blued finish, synthetic stock.

As much as I like AR's, this feels and points so much better to me.

THANK GOD it came with these ultra-safe 5 round magazines!

I just ordered a Magpul hand guard, Magpul vertical grip, Surefire G2X and a Magpul cantilevered light mount for the AR.

No toes in the pictures, just the planer boards off the boat :)

I will never be sick of AR's - but I am obsessed. From the time I was a teenager in the early 70's and saw a Colt AR15 SP1 on the wall of a local gun shop.

    Me either.

I could never be sick of the very symbol of everything which the likes of the detestable Sen. Frankenfeinstein despises with such fervor. I revel in their displeasure and indignation.

When you buy mags stick to factory ruger. They're pricy but they work where as all the aftermarket I've tried suck.
I've also had much better luck with the 20 rounders vs 30.
Look at any photo of a PD using Minis and they are generally running 20s.

Thought they were banned by name per sb281.

Would be cool if I'm wrong...

    That's my plan to a "T" ... 20 round, factory Ruger mags.

I have heard the Tapco, Gen 2 30 round mags were reliable but I personally think 30 round mags on a Mini look goofy.

One of the venders at the show today had Mini-14's with folding stocks for sale, but they were in a different caliber than 5.56.
