The Ruger manual says you shouldn't run steel cased ammo in a Mini-30. I found WPA would not feed smoothly. Every round required a "forward assist" on the bolt handle to chamber. It was just a nudge but kinda defeats the purpose of a semi-auto. Runs PPU like a champ though.

Don't most major factory guns say don't run steel case.

Sadly haven't had a chance to give it exercise.

I've been holding off getting a Mini-30 because of this.

Do either one of you have the older (18x - 19x series) or the more recent (58x) series rifles? Seems like the newer ones are reporting less issues.

I run steel case x39 exclusively without problems in my CMMG Mk47 Mutant ;)
and after returning to the factory for repair also in my M10X Elite.

The PTR32 is great, Heavy but soft shooter...no issues with ammo type...wish would have gotten C308 before it hit the list...though it should have never been submitted...

In my opinion ruger totally dropped the ball in two areas. If the mini-30 ran steel cases well and took AK mags they would not be able to make them fast enough.

I got a PRS stock on my c308 but it requires a lot of dremeling. How easy was it for your ptr32? Btw, I think I heard someone was saying that c308 still gtg?

Three words: Mini-15, Mini-47, Mini-74. Price 'em at $600 street, and Ruger would be able to print money forever. In fact, this is so stupidly obvious that I feel like they must be saving these for a rainy day.

A mini-15 type rifle would require some engineering to get the AR magazine to work with the rifle. A 47 or 74 style magazine would lock in very similar to a mini-30 so I'm not sure why they didn't go that route. It seems like that would have been easier than creating the mini-30 magazines.

The Mini-30 wasn't originally designed for the 7.62x39 round. Originally, Ruger wanted to make a smaller, lighter M-14. Their stainless receivers worked fine with the 7.62 NATO, but their blued receivers cracked after a few thousand rounds. So they switched to the shorter, weaker commie round. That's why the first Mini-30s had .308 barrels.

How is an SKS really? Especially as a short range deer rifle (100-150yds). I've seen a couple of companies make drop in firing pin replacements to add a spring so no more free floating pin and lots of replacement stocks.
