Tick Tock was always the easiest place to get booze while going to school at Maryland - that is unless you could get it at Lassick's in College Park. I never remembered that area down by Riggs Rd to be particularly safe lookin...

After I moved to MOCO, we would make the midnight run to Tick Tock after every place was closed locally. Them were the good ol' days!:party29:

Holy s**t, you've got to give me the name of that place. 'Cause after the Wheaton Plaza's Crisp & Juicy closed due to a fire, I have to drive my honey sexpot and our little rascal all the way to Rockville for some nice pollo con yuca.

El Patron Grande swears that if you do not provide the name of the place he will go to a Santero witch doctor across from Tic-Toc's in Langley Park and put a hex on you!

El Pollo Rico....you can smell the chicken smoke at the intersection of Georgia and University most days

FYI 90% of when you hear "gang violence" its BS media sensationalism. I'm not saying this is the case here but it's usually crap.

When you were young did you and your friends have a name for your little group that generally was a joke....I know we did. I know another member on here did as well. That's what the media considers gangs.

Did you guys run around shooting people in the back?

Elby's is still one of the best beer stores in the area. When I was a kid, I would go in there with my dad and bask in the warm glow of the various bikini girl beer posters that lined the entrance hallway. The Budweiser girls are still there.

    Barnaby's...

Perhaps my favorite restaurant of all time. I still have a menu from when they closed. I loved the smell of the place. Jonathon's in Rockville is very close, but certainly NOT, Barnabys.

Exactly. I went to Good Counsel for a year before transferring to Rockville High in 1982. I remember the Trolley Car was up the street. I was a freshman and played football. Went with the seniors there and I was able to drink beer. Awesome.

Dated a gal who worked at Tick-Tock while in grad school (Hi Suzanne!). That was a weird place.

El Patron Grande may speak Spanish, but he's too white to blend in Langley Park.;)

Happened to drive through Wheaton today on Georgia Avenue and noticed that every one of those new high rises/flats by the new Safeway (i.e., across from Dunkin Donuts) are all apartments. Not a single one of them is a condo complex. What do you think is going to happen when you have a bunch of renters, versus owners, living there? They look nice now.

    Time will tell.

Man, I do not remember that about Langley Park. I am 48 and grew up in Takoma Park on Garland Avenue near Carroll. Right near the Columbia Union College. Moved to Twinbrook in 8th grade. Went to Langley Park a lot to the old Korvettes, Pappy Parkers, that Shakeys Pizza near the Tic Tock, and the old Kiddie Land off Riggs near Philadelphia Av. I had friends that were SDA that lived in Langley Park/Takoma Park on the streets with Indian names. Do not remember The Havana part, although Takoma Park was really a true mixing bowl in the early to mid 70's. Damn I am getting old.

Moved to Takoma Park in the early 70s. It was a gas back then, like you said, a serious mix of interesting people.

I'm about the only person I still like in Takoma today. Shame what Metro and $$ did to the area.
