Anyone actual start hunting in Sept. It seems almost too hot to do it.

i have crop damage permits so i hunt all year. the trick is to have everything ready to cool the deer down asap. if i am going to shoot deer when its hot i have a large 2 compartment sink in the stripping shed and i keep about 10 bags of ice in the freezer. i shoot the deer, bring it RIGHT over and skin it then gut it and then hose it off and quarter it. i put a layer of ice in the bottom of the sinks and put the quartered deer in there and cover them with ice and then cold water for 30 minutes, then i put them in 5 gallon buckets and put them in the refrigerator overnight. then the next day at my leisure i process them. being ready is the trick.

I hunt opening day of bow in Sept....but 44man is right, the truck is getting it cool ASAP. I end up cutting mine up that night. If I shoot it at 7:30pm...makes for a long night for sure.

Yep the key is getting em open and quartered ASAP. Then in the cooler with ice for a few days. Leaving the drain plug open and adding ice every day. Also the key to being in the stand and comfortable is light clothes. I'll wear tennis shoes sometimes since boots are hot.

44man if you have any crop damage permits you don't want to fill yourself give me a holler and I'll come take a few does home :D

I guess my statement was, not that its too hot to dress/butcher but too hot for the deer to come out for hunting. When its 80-95 by day light Id imagine they are bedding down.

I love hunting early season. Yes, it is hot, but I have found that as long as the temps are not more than about 10 degrees above normal, the deer will still move early and late. As others said, you have to be ready to move quick once one is down. Every once in a while you can get a chilly morning in early September spurring movement.

We started a salt/mineral lick for the first time this year and as of last Saturday does and bucks are hitting it all day long, but really hard the first 90 minutes of daylight and then the last two hours.

I like to hang my deer for a few days to a week before skinning/processing it. Usually don't go until its cold out.

Might rethink that and go out early this season.

i drive from Mardela to Ft.meade 5 days a week. I see deer out on the hottest (100deg days not this year yet) at 2-3 pm. What is messed up is that they will move when it is hot, not during hunting season, but when hunting season comes along if it is a little hotter than normal they wont move till last light. The bad thing about hunting when it is hot is sweating walking to your stand. Then you stink and your camo stinks.

    close to budds creek
Early mornings and late evenings and hunt water between food sources. Deer need water so look for their tracks around he creek beds. Damn near every deer trail will coss a creek or puddle.

Here in S.C., our season starts in August this year.. AUGUST.

Indeed, and they are in velvet, and we are talking rifles not archery. I used to hunt at a place called Cedar Knoll. On opening day, hunting only in the afternoon, they shot as many deer in a day as they did at the peak of the rut.

My buddy shot one and they had too many deer to find that night. He said to the owner "I guess my deer is trash" and the owner said "There is nothing wrong with that deer, if you don't take it home and eat it, I will serve it to you here for dinner"

They went out the next morning, my buddy had it butchered and he said it tasted as good as any deer. Knowing Mark, pretty sure it wasn't gut shot. I suppose this is high speed aged venison. Collecting the deer, in afternoon might not have had such a good result
