As a side note, please make sure you're not including any mags with a capacity greater than 10 rounds.

thanks a lot everyone. I definitely feel more comfortable selling the rifle now.

as for the whole anti- theory. just chalk questions like this up to the fact that I have owned no guns up until 3-4 months ago and therefore, have basically zero knowledge about anything related to them.

    thanks again!

Hang around here, go to some mds events, you will learn. I started around the same time you did (pay no attention to my join date) and I've amassed a modest collection and a nice group of acquaintances. A whole lot of knowledge as well

Thanks for the deal on the 10/22. I hope to hear from you soon to set up a time to transfer the firearm.

Seller backed out of the deal. No reason, just said he doesn't need the money any longer. This was going to be a surprise birthday present (today's his birthday) for my son. I had it set up for us to meet after I got off work today. I never got a phone call from him and when I get home, I check my PMs and he says the deal is off.

Negative feedback has been left. I would NEVER commit to buy anything from this guy.

There is only a rumor that he's selling this rifle to someone else on the forum instead of me. If true, he and the buyer should be BANNED.

Anywhere in your ad or this thread did you ever mention that? Did you ever mention this in any of the PM's we exchanged? If you would have said you needed money immediately, we could have met last night.

I call BS on your little story and I know that Karma will exact it's revenge.

I'm done with this discussion, I will not bring it up ever again!

JMoon, that is not a good way to get started here. It is a 10/22, not a rare, hard to find rifle. You made a deal and gave your word. A man is as good as his word. Whether you need the money now or not is not the point. You committed to selling to j h smith. You should have kept your word and sold him the rifle as per your agreement. You could have replaced the rifle for only a little bit more than what you sold him that rifle for. My word is worth more than a few bucks to me.

Agreed. It's not the end of the world, but it IS bad form..

You offer something for sale in the classifieds, seems logical to me that you agree to sell it if someone hits the "Commit to Buy" button. Both sides are bound to conduct the transaction at that point.

Seller received negative feedback for backing out, as he should have. Hopefully it's a lesson learned.

    As always, caveat emptor, unfortunately.

I've had buyers back out after hitting commit to buy. This sort of backing out of buying/selling in the classifieds happens more than you think. Though I agree, it's bad form.

j_h_smith, check with Duffy's on a 10/22. They were running a deal on some Takedowns on Memorial Day.

The problem is, it happens all too often.

    Thanks, I'll do that.

somehow my life is also everyone on this forums business, when I know none of you...sorry, I didn't realize that was the case.

as for karma, you are acting like I stole something from you when I in fact did not. I did not do anything wrong, I don't care about the 'creed' the forum follows regarding sales. I no longer need to sell my rifle, so why would I? stop being mad at me that you waited until the last day to get your son a birthday present.

Good luck if you ever NEED to sell something again for quick cash. Backing out of a deal after a commitment has been made (by hitting the Commit to sale button in the ad), is not cool. I agree, I have wanted to, but didn't. I know if you were to post something for sale, and after reading the feedback, I for one would not buy your item. Oh, and welcome to MDS.

Although this thread degenerated pretty quickly, I do want to thank the folks that clarified all the nuances of selling a non-regulated rifle in Maryland. I had been wondering on how this is done.

Nobody said that was the case.

With this attitude, enjoy your stay around here while it lasts.:sad20:

    Because you agreed to.

He didn't say that was the only present he had in mind.

I will bet that there were no phone calls exchanged between the 2 parties involved. Funny how a phone conversation between buyer and seller can clear up a lot of things... Thanks JMoon... you'll just never know what that "thanks" was for.:innocent0

I left my phone number in a PM to him on Friday evening along with how best to do the transfer. I didn't get a phone call and had to learn of his decision in a PM.

I gave my son one of mine and I'll look for another for me. This was just a last minute idea to give the boy something else for him to shoot. I may just get the SS Take Down. Just a thought.
