In Massachusetts each gun manufacturer needs to go through a certification process in order to have their guns sold there. Springfield did not want to jump through the hoops. I am originally from MA, and my dad is an avid shooter. He was pumped on his last visit to give my XDM a try, since he can not have one there.

I really like their 1911s... haven't looked at much else, but who knows..

The alcohol laws are wonderfully screwy here. I was apoplectic with rage after I found out you couldn't buy beer at the grocery store, but then I realized there was a "no chain stores" liquor law. That means that all the liquor stores are mom and pop, which in turn means that consistent pricing is very difficult, and--just follow me here a little more here--that means that you can find $100 price variations on good bottles of Scotch.

So, if you enjoy a drink from time to time and know how much booze usually costs, you can find some great deals, unlike VA, which has a state monopoly.

However, Maryland is VERY INTOLERANT of drunk driving (not that I disagree). A 22oz beer at Outback can almost put you over the limit, so stick to one or have a designated driver.

During a recent visit I found out that the particular county I was in charges 5 cents per plastic bag at supermarkets and such. I was appalled.

Also, all the cameras on the streets to nab people for traffic violations... Almost made Massachusetts look good.

I'm originally from Rockport, good to see another North Shore transplant coming this way.

I live in montgomery country and commute to NoVa for work. If you can avoid it, please do. Not sure what you looking for in terms of work but it would be like commuting from north to south shore along 93. Only 30 miles each way but an hour at least.

Architect323 mention LTC ( Handgun Permit in MdSpeak) renewal time. Farther down you mentioned your preferences for a carry pistol.

Major News Flash ! In Md you will NOT be able to get a carry permit as a normal citizen. Unless you are coming here to be Armed Security or Private Investagator , Bail Bondsman, etc . And then it would be restricted to while working , so everyday carry on your own time is still a non-starter.

If the ability to carry is of any importance to you , bypass Md , prodeede directly to Arlington Va .

    This.

Glock has also abandoned Mass, that's why I mentioned that he could get one down here. The manufacturer must submit the guns for testing, and they are not returned. Glock submitted multiple versions for multiple rounds, then finally gave up. Not 100% sure, but I believe the problem runs afoul of their internal safety.

The kicker: It's not a gun control law that they're failing, it's a "Consumer Safety" law...

Hey, another soon to be transplant from MA to MD here. The job offer my wife recieved was just too good to pass up. And though it may not seem possible, MD gun laws are a lot better than Mass. Coupled with lower house prices and auto insurance to boot.

That's somewhat comforting to hear. Which area of MA are you leaving?

It all depends on what area you move to.

Howdy neighbor. I work in the north shore, and live about 20 minutes north of Boston.

One thing about the possibility of moving to MD is not dealing with the Massachusetts approved firearms roster. On the flip side, I don't particularly like the idea of registering my firearms.

I'm in North Andover. 26 miles and an hour and a half from Boston. I won't miss the licensing crap every few years, or the screwing that will come out of the legislature some time soon to make it worse.

The licensing is a joke. The legislature is a fraud. Kind of can't wait to leave. MD isn't my first choice, but being with the girlfriend is.

Well you can take my place because I'm leaving soon. Meanwhile find a nice solid maple door with a steel doorjamb, place your testicles on the jamb and slam the door 4 or 5 times......that is less painful than MD has become.

I will also have an end unit townhouse just north of Silver Spring for sale soon.
