Further, this is a way to select who you want to register without officially seeking out certain people to register.

What might some other good venues be? And can one run registration anywhere in the state? So let's say I do training in MoCo. Can I set up a table in front of a gunshop here, then have a table at the Fred. Co. gun show, then somewhere else?

Your training/certification is good to go statewide.

How are everyone's plans for training and setting up at a local gun shop on May 11 progressing?

I am still waiting for an answer beyond "have to think about it" from the spot I had hoped to work from. Should have a definite answer soon enough to scout out an alternate if my original plans fall through.

Just finalized arrangements today for setting up a registration table outside my local shop on the 2nd Saturday of each month.

With some luck and hard work we can get this idea rolling with at least a few VRVs in place at gun shops on Saturday, May 11, 2013. I would like to post an announcement of the project launch with a listing of participating shops, so please get back to me with the shop details.. name, address, etc.

I might Consider doing this, but I would bring a second set of flyers. One, Get people registered. Two, Promote the DINO movement in areas that need it. Like mine, Howard County.

Unless that becomes a conflict of interest. Might Just Put DINO stuff in every gun shop to build those numbers.

It seems as if there are a lot of different views about the DINO proposition with the upcoming election in 2014.

What are the goals here? Are there people with election knowledge running the show here? Or are we just a bunch of angry gun owners looking for some payback and grasping at straws because we don't know what else to do?

It's been three weeks since all this started and it's like the three bears. Some want to jerk people up by the short hairs and make them listen. Some want to talk softly until their blue in the face. Some want to hold off until we get closer to the 2014 election.

Not everyone is right and not everyone is wrong, but at some point there needs to be some form of coalition so one hand knows what the other hand is doing. Or everyone can work on their own, at their own speed, and their own comfort level.

Plan D? Not worth the hassle.
You guys should also try to get the DINO information out with you as well. This will let them know of our best way to fight back for the time being, and make it so we can really hurt those clowns in the primaries.

Pretty sure you can't do that when doing registration..Very big no no. Don't even think about it.....

I am both an election judge and voter registration volunteer. Here's what you CAN do as a VRV:

    1. select your location to set up registration strategically
    2. collocate with special interests, but not direct folks that register to vote to talk to those other people :)

You CANNOT tell people what party to register for or talk about the DINO movement. See number 2.

While a high traffic area like a fast food restaurant would probably yield higher numbers of new voters than a gun shop, gun show, or range, I was hoping this project to target gun owners for voter registration would up the numbers of pro-2A voters.

I was hoping the same thing. Figured there might be an affinity between gun owners and the larger volumes of traditional values types that seemed to be supportive of Chick-fil-A during the recent Chick-fil-A appreciation day. Maybe a little subtle, but am trying to think outside the box, and in volume. It's those darned folks that Obama chastised for clinging to their guns and their bibles that crossed my mind. Don't know whether there's a strong enough affinity there or not.

Info is available. Anyone here in marketing ? But in any case this kind of discussion is best FTF.

Just my .02 but I would avoid getting cute. There will be lots of eyes upon us, and they would love to make trouble for us. :)

Lol. I plan to get out there and register as many people as I can. Others are welcome to do as they choose...

Don't tell me Dems don't use this strategy. Thought we decided to beat them at their own game. Oh, it has to be more underground right.

The effectiveness of the DINO movement will vary from district to district depending on the mix of D/R. In some districts withe heavy D representation, going DINO is likely the only way to make your vote count. In others with solid R, DINO makes no sense. In those districts with a mix, it becomes a closer call with the need for local coordination.

Making that call is not our worry in this project. The point of this drive is to get as many pro2A voters registered as possible.

I am both an election judge and voter registration volunteer. Here's what you CAN do as a VRV:

When acting as a VRV, the most you can do is educate the prospective voter about Maryland's closed primary system. That might be enough of a hint to the smarter ones. Our goal with this project shouldn't be to push the DINO idea but only to register more gun owners to vote.

I called them yesterday and told them i was interested in doing this and they asked me who my target audience was. I figured after i ended up telling them SB281 opponents who aren't currently registered they wouldn't even call me back. The guy did though and said he was told by his boss he could do the training for me even though they were really busy on the redistricting project. He asked me when i could come in and we just worked out a time so it isn't a set training schedule.

What business is it of theirs who your target audience is? Glad it went the right way and they got back to you to set up required training.

Hope to help this cause in my area soon even though my calendar is overflowing with commitments already.

Indeed! Who are they to determine the exercising of a right?

Glad to hear from the southern reaches of the PRM! Please keep in touch when you are ready to roll so that your info can be added to the project launch announcement.

Dogbone, we need some demographics. And an alternate communication path. Been doing some recon and thinking hard on this, but am reluctant to post here. Are you starting a email distribution list?

I have been sending a few PMs to try to update infrequent posters and keep them in the loop. I agree an alternate line of communication might be useful at times but despite the klunkiness of the forum as a comm tool, it does serve as a useful way to spread word of the project.

Maybe I am not being concerned enough about OpSec but what we are doing is well within the letter and spirit of election laws. I don't want to keep this a secret. I want every gun owner in the state to know about it and tell all their friends, family, etc. about it.

Agreed in principle. My concern is having a bunch of contentious anti's showing up making a scene... It has been known to happen :D

I am not suggesting anything secretive or not above board. Just seems some of this would be best discussed using alternate methods.

I think that would be wonderful! Great PR for our side as they try to trample not only our RKBA but our right to vote. :)

But they are probably too scared of EBRs to get within a mile of a gun shop.
