Nice to see so many O'Malley supporters here still carrying the flag for him by refusing to get a HQL.

Democrats/Anti-Gunners in MD for the win!! ;)

What about "universal background checks" or no guns on the terror watch list?

Once either of them are passed we all will be found worthy of being stripped of our rights . The HQL is just a stepping stone to get what they want which is an Australlian type ban

So I see both sides of this. Hold out for this to get overturned in court, vice get the license out of spite.

That aside, is this law having an impact on retail prices in MD?

None the less, there are a number of good 80% paperweights available that need no HQL.

Seriously? Did you enjoy jumping through hoops and begging the government for permission to exercise your RIGHT to bear arms? Smart, resourceful people don't need an HQL to purchase anything...use your damn brain and exploit holes in the illegal law..

No, I don't enjoy jumping through hoops, but if we let the Antis throw up enough barriers to gun ownership that folks stop buying, they win.

The law was designed to curtail gun sales, not for "gun safety," and, yes, it is another fee, which averages out to around $10 a year with fingerprints and license fee.

If you can't afford that, you probably can't afford a gun either.

C&R and legal face to face sales are great, but they won't keep gun dealers alive in this state, and surprise, surprise, gun dealers ARE in the business to make money. The Democrats and other Antis counted on the HQL putting dealers out of business, and it already has.

Use your damn brain and see the real agenda here. ;)

So if a Ford salesmen went onto a car forum and scolded users for not getting a drivers license so they could buy cars to drive on the roads, you wouldn't see the irony?

I understand that the dealers are in a tough spot right now, but you can't bad mouth, bully, or ridicule people into doing what you want...at least not this group.

Completely irrelevant comparison, as I don't see the government trying to make cars illegal and harder to obtain anytime soon.

If you will read the post I was responding to, you will see I only used rhetoric that was taken directly from his post, so no bullying, badmouthing or ridicule here.

I am not in a particularly tight spot, but many dealers are; I stand by my opinion on the matter, here , or anyplace else.

The law was designed to discourage gun sales and it is working.

I found that not having an HQL allowed me to shoot others more often, like my BP revolvers with conversion cylinders and my lever guns and american rifles in pistol caliber.

I also found time to clean the dust off my drill press to make it a productive member of the household again. ;)

The comparison highlighted the irony of someone selling something and belittling folks who choose not to buy...that's it.

You're entitled to your opinion a me mine.

Glad you're not in a tight spot...no sarc...I mean that.

Yes, it was designed to discourage gun sales. Hopefully there's a lawsuit in the works for the newly turned 21-year-olds whose rights are being violated by this law. I think that group might have the best argument against this law.

Let me guess...you're a gun dealer...well here is some news for you...people don't buy guns to keep dealers in business...people buy guns for sporting or as the case may be recently, to kill bad guys...they don't (or shouldn't) care who they buy their gun from...in fact, people who don't want the government to know their business should never buy a gun from a dealer...The HQL is more than just am impediment to purchasing a hand gun, it's also defacto generic registration....I don't know about your 2nd amendment but mine says "SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED" and I live by that...

Unfortunately a law suit isn't going to work. There are other states that have had HQL type requirements for quite a while now. They have been challenged and they have all lost. I think that is the reason that the NRA will not fund the HQL lawsuit MSI is trying to raise funds for.

So open carry rally in Lawyer's mall with unregistered handguns and machine guns then?

I made a calculated and conscious decision to get my HQL and to purchase handguns on a regular basis from LGS's in Maryland, to add to my collection. I want the purpose of the HQL to fail and to fail miserably. I want as many LGS's in Maryland to stay in business and to thrive.

The 77R was, pre 10/2013, and is now used for voluntary registration of the firearms you purchase where you fill out that form. You need to think of standing with respect to the law.

Do you carry a cell phone? If yes, then you are providing the government the means to track your every movement.

Of course I'm a dealer, it is clearly noted in my avatar.

Here is some news, in this state, if you have no dealers, who is going to transfer your guns and bring new inventory into the state?

The supply of C&R and non-regulated guns in this state is finite, so as much as people may not want to admit it, dealers are useful, and not everybody wants to exercise their Second Amendment rights C&R guns, rifles and shotguns; some people like brand new handguns.

I completely agree with you on the Second Amendment and how is should be interpreted and used, but the current legalities do not permit that, and we obviously disagree on what effect the HQL has and how it should be dealt with.
