I've read the forum (and Google) but if I missed a similar thread I apologize.

Bought an NDS-1P receiver from Nodak Spud before the 10/1 ban went in to effect. For those who may not know that is for the Polish/Hungarian AKMS variant AK. I've read a lot on how to build the rifle and have friends who have built them before so I have access to knowledge and tools. It's certainly more than putting together an AR receiver but I'm confident I can pull it off.

Problem is, I can not find a parts kit. Found one on What A Country (http://whatacountry.com/polish-underfolder-ak-parts-kit.aspx) but for $390 it doesn't include a barrel. Seems pricey to me but others may disagree. I searched at the Harrisburg gun show (went straight to Sarco then searched the rest of the hall) with no luck. Google hasn't been a big help either.

So, experienced AK builders, where have you all had luck finding parts kits recently? I'd like to get the kit in my hand so that I can start to prepare/refinish parts before assembly. Should I keep trying gun shows or is the internet a better resource?

The one at What A Country is your best bet. The parts kit bubble burst when the panic hit last winter; ~$400 or so is the going rate for those kits now.

I kinda figured that was the case but was hoping otherwise. Seems like that happened with most parts of the firearms industry

kits have all but dried up at shows. i saw ONE polish UF kit at chantilly. marked "$700 FIRM, CASH ONLY."

which is damn near twice what it's worth, considering it didn't have a barrel.

Just a suggestion but you might want to keep an eye out for the barrel itself too.

At least the kit problem might work itself out. With millions of old AKM variants floating out there, at least there's a future chance for an influx of a few thousand AKMS kits.

Unless the importation ban on non-sporting barrels changes, NOS foreign barrels will become harder (than they are now) to find. Seemed steep to pay $190 for a NOS Romanian AKM barrel from Apex a couple months ago but now I wish I'd bought a couple.

    How about this...

I see that milled kits are available more readily. I did some searching and according to some a milled kit will work on a stamped receiver if you change out the trunnions. Anyone have any experience doing such a thing? Sounds like a poor idea personally but if it has worked in the past I'd take a shot at it
