Hi Everyone, So my buddy's dad was showing off a Colt 1911 that he purchased new in 82 and, interestingly enough, the MSP 77r forms were in the box. At the risk of sounding, uh, "younger" I honestly had no idea that the 77r forms went back that far! So, this raises a few questions that...

Several different answers. Buying from a dealer has been for a while. Bought my first one (from a store) in 1982 and it was a thing then. Sometime in the early to mid 90's all private sales had to go through the MSP. Since 2013 poor saps moving to Maryland are supposed to register their handguns when they become residents.

October 1, 1996 no more private sales

1996 was when ( essentially all ) handgun sales/ transfers required the Permission Slip/ Paper trail .

It had applied to Dealer purchases since 1966 .
