Not sure what "funds" were spent to defeat the Manchin-Toomey bill. Perhaps you mean 75% of the money spent on ads against it? I never saw an ad against it, and it wasn't running ads that defeated it. You think the NRGA stopped that bill? Did you see that self-confessed coke-dealing, dope-smoking, America-hating, Constitution-despising pansy obama crying and whining about the NRGA after that bill went down? Was his brain-dead butt-boy biden moaning and groaning about how the leftists were slapped down by the NRGA?

No, it's the NRA that took those miserable communist swine to the woodshed. Other gun organizations do their part, but they do not remotely inspire the level of naked fear in socialist vermin that the NRA does. If you are American and if you have respect for the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, you should be a member.

NRA has the best range ever and the prices are reasonable. As others have stated if it is your first time there are some one-time fees. But if you've been before, are an NRA member, and bring your own targets, ammo, etc. the range time is quite reasonable.

I'm going back & will inaugurate my anti-O'Malley-281 AR-15 with me!

Was there EVER a possibility of our senators voting against the bill?

The NRA spent money on ads, but they spent money on ads in battleground states.

The NRA bought the building at a time when the market was bottomed out at below cost., then added the parking garage and range complex. The NRA is a multi-faceted organization that does lots of things , including education , training , national and international shooting competions , range development , conservation ( and more ) in addition to fighting for our rights. They are the 800 lb gorilla at the national level. Their activity specifically in Md has greatly increased as late. While not to the extent of the SAF , they are increasing their litagation.

The NRA has several specific vehicles to channel donations to specific efforts. To specifically advance politically , the ILA , and the PVF would be your channels.

LongTom, you are sadly mistaken if you think the NRA range is overpriced. The rate is $15 per hour. You can bring your own ammo and targets. You should try Gilbert's Range for comparison. Many people from Montgomery Co cross the river to shoot there because it is the cheapest place to shoot indoors. It also happens to be the finest range in the area.

If $15/hr is too rich for you, then shoot outside in a rural area where it is legal. In Montgomery County and Fairfax Co, the choices are very slim.

 You forget the outrageously expensive liability insurance for the range, I'm sure the costs for the NRA are around the top of the list considering they also use the ranges for training.

Yea. You're right. Not to mention, my dad said they have to comply with ridiculous EPA rules regarding airflow and lead being disbursed into the air.

I'm beginning to see the light, guys. Thanks.

A different POV with good reasoning isn't flaming IMO. You're mature enough to accept others' POV and change. That's a good thing.

So the NRA itself can't lobby, it's educational, and the range is used for that purpose. NRA-ILA is the legislative affairs branch, the NRA can only give them so much money, next time your donating to Dudley throw a few bucks to NRA-ILA, it's actually amazing what they can accomplish with the small budget they have.

While I’m an NRA member they are not my favorite organization by far. They essentially are just another hierarchy where the guys at the top line their pockets and look out for the interest of those in power (gun manufacturers). That being said though, they sure do one hell of a good job when it comes to defending our rights and doing outreach work in terms of promoting and expanding shooting sports.

It’s a give and take I guess but they will keep getting my money on a yearly basis until some other organization comes along and gains as much political power as they have.

It went exactly as I had planned.

I had some concerns and wanted to be educated.

Now I see things in a different way and I am happy for it.

I am NOT afraid to ask questions and learn, even if I am flamed for it.

Sometimes we have to break you down to build you back up.
