    Legend in my own mind
I don't think you realize the third angle. I primarily joined this site because I was interested and wanted to learn more about 2A in Maryland. I'm a new shooter and a lurker because don't have much in the way of information to give, unless you plan on having people with low post counts parrot whatever the last guy said.
I understand the security issue and all, but the Current Events and Water Cooler Section were basically the only places I could have contributed without having years of firearms knowledge under my belt.
You'll go ahead and say that the Water Cooler is something I shouldn't be missing because its full of off-topic threads, but there certainly are a lot of off-topic threads that pertain to 2A here, it IS a shooting forum.

And if this place would close due to a lawsuit what would you have then? You say you are a new shooter but then go on to say you cannot contribute anywhere else but the water cooler because you have little firearms knowledge. Hogwash.... no one is asking a new shooter to "contribute" in an information type of way. We know as a new shooter that you may not be very knowlegeable in firearms. You are more than welcome to ask questions you might have and comment on current posts in the rest of the forums that are still available to you. That is how you can contribute to this forum.

I am very much a lurker my self. I have been here a little over 4 years and haven't even cracked 2k posts. Compared to most here my firearms knowledge make me an amateur. Everything that is listed in my signature except for being an NRA member has happed because of this site. I don't even post much that is firearms related. But I post when I have an opinion about something or I have something I think may be of interest for the forums. If you do the same, in due time the water cooler will become available to you once again. The 2a forum would be a great place to start as there seems to be another wave of attacks on our 2a rights happening at the State and Federal levels.

The only way to learn is to ask questions by posting. Post counts really are irrelevant, more than half of mine are stupid stuff, but through the good people here I've learned more in 2 years than I had in the previous 8 years in the hobby through trial and error. I think some are blowing this out of proportion, if they don't have Water Cooler access and want to see it, PM the mods, they'll help you figure it out.

Contributing doesn't have to mean sharing your wealth of knowledge. It can mean asking question because you don't know something. I think DD214 is just looking to see posting activity in other sections. Ask questions about laws you don't under stand, ask for others opinions on gear your interested in, etc. It's all participation.

Whether you are a new shooter or not, surely you can tell someone that their gun looks nice or post that you noticed your local Walmart was stocked with ammo. Or you could ask a question about something gun related that you don't understand or you could ask where you might find something that you are looking to purchase. They are not asking you to post the advantages or disadvantages of .45 over 9mm or vice versa. Just participate! If you value this forum at all, contribute to it. I would not consider myself "knowledgeable" when it comes to firearms but I still find ways to contribute occasionally.

I guarantee you will regain access to the water cooler faster by POSTING on the forum than you will by complaining about not having access anymore. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the posts in this thread did not count towards regaining access.

And YES, we can idetify most of the trolls pretty quickly. But we don't ban them because we want them to stay and educate themselves. About guns. Not fat chicks with guns pictures.:D

What about that ****** amazing horse video?

I have been "lurking" on this post since Don put it up. I normally don't make entries in these type of posts because when they are filled with contorversy all an entry seems to do is inflame somebody or hurt someones feelings and really does not serve any good purpose. I guess this is why after over two years on this forum, I have such a low post count. I only post when I feel that I can positively contribute to the topic or bust someones chops that I feel I know enough not to have them take it the wrong way. (Right Chad). My point is if you make miminum posts and contribute when you feel you can add a positive comment, then you will always be welcome on this forum and your post count will build quickly. The bottom line is that this is Don's house and his rules. He can take his ball and go home anytime he likes!

I don't understand why this person is making a complaint like this. They have been on this site for almost a year and up until now they only found one topic to post a comment too. The comment here was there second post since April of 2010. Seems strange to me.

    OK, Now What?

Just noticed that I am now restricted from posting any new threads as well as having no access to "The Water Cooler." Why? :sad20:

If I am supposed to increase my post count to regain access to "The Water Cooler" and cannot initiate a new thread, perhaps this is a new version of "Catch 22." :mad54:

For what it may be worth, I am ex-military, retired DoD, a competitive shooter (pistol, rifle & shotgun) and have been in the shooting game for over 50 years. I don't think I can qualify as a troll of any sort, at least in this forum. For these reasons, I found "The Water Cooler" the section of most interest to me on this forum for the wide assortment of discussions by like-minded individuals.

Frankly, I think that this "cowboy" may just go away and not bother you allegedly high-minded individuals any more. Be careful. You may well find more of us so-called "lurkers" coming to the same conclusion and, rather than post useless drivel simply to get a post count increase, simply go away. :sad20:

OK. Having vented a little, I now feel a bit better.

[EDIT: Sorry. Should have checked a little more carefully. I am only restricted from posting new threads in this particular part of the forum. Can post elsewhere. Jumped to an incorrect conclusion.]

BTW, my alias comes from the old legend that a true warhorse, even though old and put out to pasture, will still head for the sound of guns. Take that for whatever it's worth.

PM a Mod or Admin, there may be a bug in this new system. Things need ironed out, but we need to communicate, not complain, to get them done.

ETA: Good, I see it was a mistake.

    Come on. Really?:sad20:

You've been here since '08. If you've been following "lurking" the forum during this time, you know the Management aren't a-holes. Quite the contrary. They are some of the fairest Mods on the net and if they put this in place for a reason, you can be sure it was a good one.

Bear with us through the changes and I'm sure everything will work out fine.:)

    HAHAHAHA

    Big Boy pants. That's funny.

Frosh desk drawer veto'd the "Wear Big Boy Pants" bill in MD.

Our fellow Americans, our esteemed oppostion on the left stopping playing fair in 2000 and started a campaign of slander, libel and moral assination of their conservative adversaries which culminated in the 2008 election cycle. You now know it as "Chicago Way" or the Saul Alinsky wing of the Democratic Party.

This same tactics that elected BHO are now being turned against their other favorite agenda items like health care, governmental control of businesses and the crown jewel of their social engineering agenda, Gun Control.

To create their socialist utopia, the must first tear down the individual by eliminating our freedoms and rights to make us a more pliable supplicant for inclusion in their collective society.

What better tool than to take our own thoughts and words so they can twist and mutilate them for their own propaganda to sway the unenlighted and uninformed masses of our fellow citizens?

This is what happened to our country to date but it doesn't have to continue if people simply believe that is "We the People' and not "We the Sheeple".

LOL you said 'tool'. But I digress. Did you double check to make sure the basement door is locked?

I see it as “It is what it is” and I agree with it for whatever the reasons are. Be that as it my, It keeps surfers and lurkers out of that section of the forum. I agree with not banning people for the soul purpose gun education. Most if not all newbie’s like myself either want and or need it. We have members and senior members alike who are shooters with a lot of knowledge and experience with guns as well as our gun rights and provide link’s to further our education. These people pass down this knowledge on this form to newbie’s like myself and I thank you. That is what this forum is for and I’m glad to be a member of it. Don’t get upset or disgruntled that you can not view The water cooler section of this forum. This sites creator has a reason for doing this. There are other forums you can go to with a water cooler like section. (My two cents)

Personally speaking, I do belong to a number of other sites. You'll see my username on a few related forums, but I am not a 'regular' anywhere. My posts might total 50 on all discussion boards combined. If I weren't stuck on my 4th point of contact for the past couple of days, I probably wouldn't even be on here now. I post when I have a question, an answer, a problem, or information that may be useful for others, like a range report, or when I'm sick or something and have nothing else to do. Which ain't all that frequent.

I am, however, an honorable man and a leader. And when I feel like I am being excluded from anything, I instinctively go elsewhere. You're only as faithful as your options. But regardless - I've used the business services of members I found on this board, so when a person leaves, so does his wisdom as well as his wallet... at least for any members here who use this place as a means to network for business as well as fun. It doesn't exactly get a 'way to go' on the building-a-team piece. And in this day and age where more and more people are connected, the percentage of 'surfers', 'lurkers' and 'trolls' is going to multiply.

I joined this forum because I moved to MD late last year and am an avid shooting and firearms enthusiast. As a patriot, I am unbelievably shocked at the comments made about 'the enemy', 'socialist regimes', etc. Think about it - that talk could get you a court-martial or at the very least a heavy Article 15 in the Army, so that should tell you how it sounds. I personally don't trust anyone who doesn't have at least one Art 15 in their file, but not for speaking ill of your fellow countrymen. That's un-American. That's how Sunnis and Shiites talk to each other, even though they live in the same place. You want to pattern after them?

If you've been anywhere around a TV or any other kind of medium this past week, you'd understand what just happened in Egypt and realize how good you have it here. You want to talk about socialist regimes? Enemy governments? Spend a week outside of this country - and not on a cruise ship or in a hilton - and see what it's like, no matter where it is. Is Canada socialist? If so, are they broken? Is Afghanistan a democracy? What exactly is it you are angry about - not being able to carry a concealed weapon, or...? These are the same folks that ask mods to ban people who don't share their opinion, who call other people names, that pile on, that ramble on in some spaceman-like sh** that makes them sound like complete maniacs and paranoid crazies. Yet 'lurkers' and 'trolls' are excluded from certain areas of the site? There's something upside down about that.

I guess my point is, some of you should really back off the rhetoric and paranoia. It's not going to help the cause.

I lost access to the water cooler also. But, I am not mad at all. I am just working to get to the minimal number of posts and I will have access restored. All someone has to do to get there post count up is just say Hi or Welcome to a new member. Do that 50 times and you have access.

I look at it this way, if I joined today I would not know anything about the water cooler except what is written in this thread. Then when I attained access it would look like they added something to the site. Just be happy that this site is available. All of the important information to learn about firearms and your "Rights" are still available.

    Personally speaking, I do ...

Don't take it personally. You're new here. There have been some serious issues that you probably aren't aware of.

Some members (with a great deal of knowledge) who used to contribute much have shied away because of said problems.

In order to address the issues, the person who pays for this site with hard earned $ from his own pocket (DD214) has decided these are the rules.

I think if you stick around you'll be glad you did. If you decide not to, well, that's your choice too.
