You can also bypass the HQL by getting a Federal Curio and Relic license. It's $30 for three years. It lets you buy guns 50 years or older with certain restrictions. The form is here: https://www.atf.gov/firearms/docs/f...ral-firearms-license-atf-form-531012/download

You can get cool guns like the Tokarev TT-C in the picture below mailed directly to your house.

You can also buy the Tokarev with your C&R, self register it via a 77r and get a waiver on the training requirement.(extremely fun gun btw)

I would add, since you have to get your fingerprints to check out Concealed carry option. You can use those live scans for anything that uses live scans. Tho you do have to do it within a certain time window... That's what I did..applied for my HQL and my CC at the same time@

prints for MD W&C are good for 73 hours according to MSP, Other stuff 30 days. it's more of a CJIS to MSP mail thing than anything else as I understand it.

Just for the sake of completeness, and I know it doesn't apply to the OP, after you get your W&C they will give you the HQL free if you ask. (Presumably since you have already done a LOT more to get the W&C than is required for the HQL.)
