I will check with Lou when the times approaching though, I just didn't think cops carried compact glocks? I could be wrong. If all fails and a deal on a glock21 slim frame is available I'd have no problem closing the deal on it. I just know I need me a glock, I have always wanted one but couldn't afford one and the when I could all the HQL process was in effect lol. That crap just created another obstacle for me on my persuit of my glock. Punk ass ommalley!

+1 I've probably gotten at least 6 guns through Lou, he has the best prices on police trade in's in MD.

Lou is an evil person. He said he would only sell me a G22 if I told Sarah that she was the hottest thing I'd seen, this side of Katherine Heigl. I felt so dirty saying that Sarah was hotter than KH, but I really wanted the G22. I still had to clean the lube off of the G22. Louie loves Sarah a bit too much, so watch out if Sarah gives you the stink eye. :lol2:

I haven't bought anything from UGS but I went there one time when they opened just to check them out. Their space is really really nice. New,clean, well lit. When I came through the door, even though the two guys behind the counter were helping customers they made it a point to greet me and asked if I needed help. I said I was just looking. I walked around checked out their stock and prices and I thought they were pretty competitive. After one the guys was done with a customer he asked what brought me in. I told him I wasn't in the market for anything but wanted to check the shop. He said great and asked if I wanted to see anything in the glass. He did not act like I was wasting his time even though I told him I wasn't in the market for anything. We chatted alittle and told me if he didn't have a firearm I wanted he can try to get it. We shook hands and I left. I got a good vibe from that place and would definitely buy something from them.

Stopped by today for the first time on my lunch break around 12:30. Seemed like a great shop, very clean, organized and the staff seemed knowledgable and courteous. I would have liked to spend a more time and pick up a few things but I was in a bit of a rush. Next time I'm down in Rockville I'll definitely stop by again.

I have had great experiences there. I drive around a lot for my job and try to stop in any small shops I come across and I have stopped in here a few times. Great service and customer service and reasonable prices. Also, transfers for $50. Highly recommend them.

I'll echo the sentiment for UGS, bought and sold a few firearms through them. Nice folks! Great service!

I'll second UGS. I''ve been on the receiving end of some dick behavior from a lot of local shops. Went into UGS looking for a Smith to work on some stuff for me...after reaching out to some of the more well known Smith's on this site and getting no reply. UGS didn't have a Smith but the guy immediately hopped on the phone and started making phone calls. After a few calls, he had a name and number of a guy who is supposed to be one of the best around. He got me this information with nothing from me. Amazing customer service from these guys. They're breaking the "you have to be a dick to operate a gun store in MD" rule. As long as I live in this state, I will go to these guys for all my firearm needs.
Go check 'em out. You will be happy you did.

    Hi Alex,

If you ever make a visit again please introduce yourself. Myself and Brian are the only guys who work the shop daily. Between the two of us we purposely greet every customer that walks through the door even if we are with someone else. If you were not greeted that is not the norm and I personally will help you if you make it back in. As for pricing, not sure who you are comparing us to? I opened the store to provide ** the best ** prices and service in the area -- period. If you find a better price I will do my best to beat it. I started selling online 7 years ago and with the buying power I have I rarely will lose a sale due to price. Typically, it is just an issue of the firearm not being available.

I do appreciate the feedback and welcome the nice comments by our regular customers. If there is anything else you all would like to see or have us try and do better please reply or pm. Thanks!

    Cory

That is what I am talking about! Screw gun shop 'attitude'! I've never heard of UGS and I live in Montgomery County and the Pops lives close to them apparently. I will definitely have to check them out (too bad I will be broke as a joke until after Christmas with three kids and all), but if those guys really do conduct business like this, I will be spending some money there after the first of the year. I have spent my entire life in customer service/sales/retail and for the life of me, I've never been able to figure out how the average local gun shop manages to stay in business with the horrible customer service they are often know for. For the sake of all that is holy, if someone walks into your store (here is a little hint for you retail folks trying to make a living), look the guy in the eye and say...wait for it... Hello. Really, is it that hard? Treat people who come into your shop like they are your best friends (because they are). Even if they don't spend any money with you, they might later. Or they might tell a friend who will spend money. IF one thing is for certain, though, if you piss in someone's Wheaties when they first walk through the door, they WILL tell the whole world about their crappy retail experience.

I dropped by the UGS shop about a week or two weeks ago just to look around. I am not really looking at getting anything at this time as I just recently bought a Dan Wesson Specialist. The place is clean, the guys there are nice to talk to, prices look good. Next time I am looking to get a new toy, I'll definitely consider them.

Just stopped in Friday for the first time. Don't let the outside fool you. Go on in, you won't be let down. The bad part is, they are located right between my shop and my bank. I'm gonna have to exercise great restraint now ever time I drive buy.

You can blame the 1968 Gun Control Act on top of Maryland's oppressive laws for that.

With the '68 law you have to go to a gun store to buy any new gun unless you buy locally from another resident of the state who happens to not like what he bought never firing it and as long as it's unregulated can sell to you. The gun store is the point of contact for 99.9% of gun sales.

Even if you buy a gun online you still need a FFL for the transfer. Of course the FFL has a choice of whether they do transfers since it isn't mandatory for them to do so. Add to the fact if you are transferring a gun they already stock they can tell you to piss off.

Then with Maryland's laws it is a pain in the ass having to explain to a newbie the intricacies of Maryland's gun laws unless you have nothing better to do. Unlike most retail establishments, they don't have a federal agency like the ATF constantly breathing down their necks looking for any excuse to revoke your license. If you screw up somewhere else it is no biggie or at worse you get a fine. For a FFL a slight screw up can land prison time.

Having worked in a gun shop I know what it is like working on the other side of the counter. I am not defending a bad FFL per se but it isn't all sunsets and rainbows. Just explaining how it is.

I like United. I went there when it first opened. If I still lived in Maryland I would shop there.

I have to second a  for UGS, from my limited browsethrough.

They actually do stock a wide variety of guns covering almost every urge you could want for a gun; from good old fashioned revolvers like the Ruger GP100 for self defense while hunting/hiking; bolt action sports rifles ranging from new commercial production to old sporterized mausers; 'fun' guns like the Tavor and a variety of AR15 clones; and even a small selection of milsurp -- the last time I was there they had a Persian Mauser and a Matched Mosin Nagant M44 (with bayonet) hanging on the wall.

My only gripes are actually pretty minor:

1.) Knife selection could be a bit better suited to Maryland's knife laws -- UGS' selection is great, but too many are fixed blades, and you can only open carry fixed blades in MD; you can't put them under a jacket like you can with a folder or assisted opening folder (from my incomplete understanding of MD knife laws)

2.) Clearer labelling on the wall racks which AR15s are HBARs and which aren't; so we know which needs a HQL and which doesn't from a distance; without having to inspect closely for the evil bayonet lugs and thin barrel. ;) -- that also reminds me of a question; is your Tavor on the wall a regulated weapon or not?

All the guns on the walls are Cash and Carry (not regulated by MD) thus no hql is needed. This Tavor has a pinned and welded flash hider that makes it over 30".

There is no such thing as regulated rifles anymore. They are either legal or banned. Any rifle displayed or for sale in MD will be cash and carry. Why would a MD FFL display a rifle he knowingly could not sell to the public? It is a waste of space, time, and money.
