When I get my HQL I will be in the market for a glock, I will pay them a visit, I refuse to shop at my local FFL's. They just rub me the wrong way.
Try Shooter's Discount in Mt. Airy. Lou has some good deals on LE trade ins. He is also an IP here.

+1 I've probably gotten at least 6 guns through Lou, he has the best prices on police trade in's in MD.
I'll second UGS. I''ve been on the receiving end of some dick behavior from a lot of local shops. Went into UGS looking for a Smith to work on some stuff for me...after reaching out to some of the more well known Smith's on this site and getting no reply. UGS didn't have a Smith but the guy immediately hopped on the phone and started making phone calls. After a few calls, he had a name and number of a guy who is supposed to be one of the best around. He got me this information with nothing from me. Amazing customer service from these guys. They're breaking the "you have to be a dick to operate a gun store in MD" rule. As long as I live in this state, I will go to these guys for all my firearm needs.
Go check 'em out. You will be happy you did.
Hi Alex,
If you ever make a visit again please introduce yourself. Myself and Brian are the only guys who work the shop daily. Between the two of us we purposely greet every customer that walks through the door even if we are with someone else. If you were not greeted that is not the norm and I personally will help you if you make it back in. As for pricing, not sure who you are comparing us to? I opened the store to provide ** the best ** prices and service in the area -- period. If you find a better price I will do my best to beat it. I started selling online 7 years ago and with the buying power I have I rarely will lose a sale due to price. Typically, it is just an issue of the firearm not being available.
I do appreciate the feedback and welcome the nice comments by our regular customers. If there is anything else you all would like to see or have us try and do better please reply or pm. Thanks!
Cory
I haven't bought anything from UGS but I went there one time when they opened just to check them out. Their space is really really nice. New,clean, well lit. When I came through the door, even though the two guys behind the counter were helping customers they made it a point to greet me and asked if I needed help. I said I was just looking. I walked around checked out their stock and prices and I thought they were pretty competitive. After one the guys was done with a customer he asked what brought me in. I told him I wasn't in the market for anything but wanted to check the shop. He said great and asked if I wanted to see anything in the glass. He did not act like I was wasting his time even though I told him I wasn't in the market for anything. We chatted alittle and told me if he didn't have a firearm I wanted he can try to get it. We shook hands and I left. I got a good vibe from that place and would definitely buy something from them.
That is what I am talking about! Screw gun shop 'attitude'! I've never heard of UGS and I live in Montgomery County and the Pops lives close to them apparently. I will definitely have to check them out (too bad I will be broke as a joke until after Christmas with three kids and all), but if those guys really do conduct business like this, I will be spending some money there after the first of the year. I have spent my entire life in customer service/sales/retail and for the life of me, I've never been able to figure out how the average local gun shop manages to stay in business with the horrible customer service they are often know for. For the sake of all that is holy, if someone walks into your store (here is a little hint for you retail folks trying to make a living), look the guy in the eye and say...wait for it... Hello. Really, is it that hard? Treat people who come into your shop like they are your best friends (because they are). Even if they don't spend any money with you, they might later. Or they might tell a friend who will spend money. IF one thing is for certain, though, if you piss in someone's Wheaties when they first walk through the door, they WILL tell the whole world about their crappy retail experience.
I have to second a for UGS, from my limited browsethrough.
They actually do stock a wide variety of guns covering almost every urge you could want for a gun; from good old fashioned revolvers like the Ruger GP100 for self defense while hunting/hiking; bolt action sports rifles ranging from new commercial production to old sporterized mausers; 'fun' guns like the Tavor and a variety of AR15 clones; and even a small selection of milsurp -- the last time I was there they had a Persian Mauser and a Matched Mosin Nagant M44 (with bayonet) hanging on the wall.
My only gripes are actually pretty minor:
1.) Knife selection could be a bit better suited to Maryland's knife laws -- UGS' selection is great, but too many are fixed blades, and you can only open carry fixed blades in MD; you can't put them under a jacket like you can with a folder or assisted opening folder (from my incomplete understanding of MD knife laws)
2.) Clearer labelling on the wall racks which AR15s are HBARs and which aren't; so we know which needs a HQL and which doesn't from a distance; without having to inspect closely for the evil bayonet lugs and thin barrel. -- that also reminds me of a question; is your Tavor on the wall a regulated weapon or not?
