    Thanks for all the suggestions. I liked the TASER because of ease of use but I don't want her to run into legal issues.

    I think I'll go with pepper spray. My wife is not trained in the use of edged weapons and won't take the time to get trained. At least with the spray she can keep it on a key ring and be somewhat prepared.

    Any suggestions on a good spray?

    Have you looked at these?

    There are some real limitations to these pepper gas devices. Personally, I have found it difficult to get assailants to remain in place while I manuever to their upwind side. No matter how much I practice distraction techniques, as soon as I wet my fingertip to check the wind direction, they almost always start moving in. Also, these pepper gas canisters are darn difficult to use in an elevator.
