Hey everyone, first time poster here. I just picked up my Springfield XD .45 today and I'm loving it.

I recently moved to MD from North Carolina and this was my first handgun purchase here. The waiting period was pretty ridiculous to me. This will also be the first and last time I ever buy a handgun from Bass Pro Shop. The incompetence of the workers there was off the charts.

Hello and welcome. Congrats on the Springer XD.

One of our mdshooters members is an employee at Bass Pro and works the gun counter. I'm sure you must have dealt with someone else than Smokey, because he knows his stuff.

The waiting period gives time to the St. Police so that they can run a proper check on you and make sure you aren't a WaCk-O or a felon. Nobody would ever lie about such a thing, would they? :D

You'll get more "welcomes" from the Introduction Section...if you care.

Welcome. I bought my xD from bass pro as well a couple years ago. I went in knowing what I wanted though so they didn't need to talk to me much.

One thing you will learn, use the industry partners page to find dealers to shop from. I only do my purchasing from them, sans the occasional hunting rifle I buy used up at Cabelas in Hamburg.

Also our laws here are a bit restrictive. May want to read up on what we can buy or do out here.

Welcome! I love my XD45 as well, and Respen has some good advice. Depending on what part of MD you reside in, members will be able to recommend some good spots to shoot at too.

I've been checking out the offerings from Springfield - what's the difference between the XD45 and the XDM45? Is there a good reason to spend the extra, or does the XD get the job done more than fine?

Welcome. Things are slow when it comes to firearms in MD, but it could be worst. You could have moved to DC.
QFT - I want to move out of this state so bad it hurts. Can't though - I married a Baltimore girl (I'm originally from Nebraska) so I'm pretty much stuck here.

Yeah I had a pretty hefty supply of 30 round magazines for various weapons that I was worried about. To my knowledge, you can own them but just not purchase them in Maryland, correct?

I have the XD45 (love it) and an XDm9 (love this too) but no I don't feel it's worth the extra money. They both shoot great.

Welcome fellow Tarheel! RUN...... RUN as fast as you can!

All joking aside, where in NC do you hail from? Better yet; UNC, NCSU or Puke?

I'm from the coast. Gotta go with UNC haha although I did have a thing for a drop dead GORGEOUS Duke graduate, but since that's over, screw 'em!

I spent a long time comparing the two models and I just didn't find enough to justify the 100$+ extra in price difference between the XD and XDm. I just want it to go "bang" no fancy detachable hand guards needed.

Welcome to Maryland. If you look around, you'll find some great independent gun dealers in this state, including some who sponsor this site. It's important for us to support them. Also, you might want to look into becoming a "Designated Collector". It will eliminate, the one gun every 30 days rule. good luck.

This is the first time I have ever actually looked at them side by side - thanks for providing that pic!

It would appear to me that they have the same ergonomics, but that the XDM has a couple extra bells and whistles. I'm also going to go out on a limb and say that finding a used XD45 is probably easier to do than finding a used XDM45, and the price would be considerably lower. (I like used guns - great value to be had in used guns, especially when some guys only put a box or two through them before they flip them for something else.)

I have the XDm 9mm and got it for the changeable backstraps for my little-boy-hands:D I also like the styling a little bit more on the XDm. It came with a holster and a mag holster, did the XD come with those accessories, too? I wanted to jump into IDPA and having those accessories saved me decisions and aggravation.

I'm all about the .45 - not because I think it's an inherently superior round (and hasn't that been discussed/argued enough?) but because I already have a lot of ammo and reloading capability for it. Not that this is a show-stopper of course, but it prevents me from having to spend money building up ammo supplies that I don't currently have.

Regarding magazine capacity, to me that's kind of a non-issue - I'm currently a 1911 guy, so anything more than 8 in the mag is a plus, even if it can't match the capacities of the 9mm or .40 cal.

Good to have you here. You will find that if you do your homework and shop around you will find the shops that ask way to much and the shops that have very good prices.

I'm on day 2 of my 7 days for my new Springfield XDs 45. I bought it from Clyde's and got it for $120 less than the most expensive gun store I shopped.

A store like bass pro has some very knowledgeable people as well as some that are not so much. But you can do better on price then bass pro if you shop.
