This is a browning citori with adjustable comb. No varnish. 12ga 32”. Have never been able to identify grade or model.

Does Browning have a serial number lookup on their website that will tell you date of manufacture and model? Maybe an archives letter can be ordered that will verify that information.

I just revisited the browning web site and others. This is a 2003 made citori (MX) and starting in 1999 browning stamped 131 following the date code to designate ‘citori’. I took it down, but nothing but the 5 digit serial number.

"Beautiful. But what the heck makes it a "project gun"? It looks flawless."

Thanks, I planned to replace the 28" barrels with a 32" and dump the Graco adjustable recoil reducer in favor of a Pachmayr Decelerator. Not a huge project but time, effort and expense for an end product I decided I didn't really want or need.

It's a hot number but I do not see where the asking price comes from. I REALLY like the look

Prices are pretty high now, but I agree that $1,000 is prolly too high. But I paid $600 for a police magnum that I was expecting to be beat to piss, so who knows?

I know everything is up but to me at the end of the day it's an 870 with a long wait til I can shoot it. I have seen SBSs go for less than regular guns as well just because companies can't move them nearly as easily.

Yep, I paid $250 for my LE trade 590A1 SBS. You couldn’t buy a 20” 590A1 for anywhere near that.

Admittedly this is a tough piece to price as ther aren’t any comps. Keep in mind that this isn’t a painted piece of plastic. There’s a difference between 12ga tacticool and equipping a Texas Ranger, or the Bonnie to your Clyde (I know she used a Browning Auto, you get my point...) Old Wingmasters (real polished blue, walnut cut checkered stocks, with vent rib barrels) in other than 12ga go between $700-1800 depending on particulars & condition. This is also an older standard frame gun, not a lightweight or small frame, so makes it even more mild to shoot. Admittedly there’s some tension between collectors and shooters; this has been molested by adding chokes but, that’s far more practical and something not normally available. A plastic stock is cheaper & without a doubt more practical but, none of this is about being practical. If you started with a police mag & wanted to add some walnut, it would probably be $200, unless you wanted to carve a tree. Of course the real specialness is the second barrel & unlike stocks, they don’t grow on trees.
So my fuzzy math is $800 gun+$150 barrel+$100 gunsmithing+$50 tubes & side saddle. I’m asking a premium for 100 rounds of buckshot but will wrap it in this deal at prepandemic pricing. I’m also open to doing some horse trading (although not for an actual horse...). Hope that sounds more reasonable for the asking price and appreciate input.
