So to add to the question, I have a good amount of 230gr Boolits, is there a big difference in the 230gr and 200gr?????

    30 grains.

Thank you. Thank you, ladies and gentlemen. I'll be here all week.

    :D

All kidding aside..... yes, there is a difference.
230 grains is usually considered 'the standard' .45 acp loading.

For a SWC, I prefer the 200 grain bullet. The ones that I bought thousands of, shoot so well from my Gold Cup, I didn't see a need to change.

    YMMV.

If you have a bunch of 230s, work up a load and shoot them.

    They will shoot fine.

Or, you can give them to me and I will make sure that they work OK.

You can have them back after I am done. :lol2:

BYF43. I knew there was a man behind the curtain all the time and thank god my iPad didn't get ruined I almost spit my water out on that. Lol. Pinecone. Sir you are right on no better thing to do than make a full on assault with them lol. No target will be safe in the near future. Is there a return policy if they don't hit the targets???????

Here's some data from an old book that I have, from All American Ammo (bullet casters) using the 230 gr RN HARDCAST boolit.

    .45 acp
    Winchester 231 Powder

Minimum load: 4.5 grains........ Starting velocity: 738 fps
Maximum load: 5.5 grains........ Maximum velocity: 892 fps......
    Maximum energy: 406 fpe

Here's another good load for .45 acp and 230 gr. RN HARDCAST:
    .45 acp
    Alliant (formerly Hercules) Unique

Minimum load: 5.0 grains........ Starting velocity: 782 fps
Maximum load: 6.0 grains........ Maximum velocity: 917 fps......
    Maximum energy: 429 fpe

EDIT: Do not load below starting/minimum charge weights, and do not exceed maximum charge weights.
Always follow safe loading practices and watch for excessive pressure signs for every firearm that you load for.

I had an idea a chrono would be needed to dial in I am not there yet though

I've managed to be in the right place at the right time for using a chrono. Keep your ears open, feel around and you may get lucky too.

I've once used my gun in someones chrono and another time they shot my gun though their chrono. It's bad form to shoot a hole in someone chrony...you will need to pay for that.

You only need a chrono if you are working up a load to a desired velocity or power factor.

Or go to a site like Brian Enos and see what people there are using for IDPA and USPSA loads.

For .45 USPSA Major, I have heard 5.0 or 5.1 grains WW231 with a 200 gr LSWC works. But I have not personally tested it.

I probably should load some up tonight, as I plan on going to the range tomorrow with my chrono to get some data on a rifle load.
