    A few AR's...... 5.56/.223 , 6.8SPC II , .308 , .300BLK
    A decent AK
    A few fun (cheap ammo) target rifles..... .17HMR , .22 , .223/5.56 Mossberg MVP
    A few larger cal bolt action's for any reason that may occur.. 30-06 , .308 , .257 or .300 WBY MAG , .338
And of course I can dream of having a .50BMG or .416 Barrett

I won't even mention the class III rifles... HAHA

Tough questions! I think a lever action in all the major calibers including pistol calibers. A couple long range, 7mm mag, 30-06, 308, etc. then an ar15 in 300 blk, 6.5 Grendel, and 50 Beowulf. Then an ak47, ar10. Then some class 3 stuff like supressors for each of those calibers and some SBR. Def will need some varmint type calibers as well.

What are your goals for owning rifles? One of mine is to own at least one in all the major calibers. (.22lr, .223/5.56, 30-30, .308/7.62, 30-06, .300WinMag, .338Lapua, .408Cheytac, .50BMG) I already have the bold and the Italic is being built

If I have missed any please let me know so I can add it in and find another rifle :D

I'll let the .338 Lapua slide, but since when is .408 Cheytac a "major caliber"?

Im not sure how you would define major calibers. There really are so many and probably 100 to 200 or so that could be called majors.

Jimbob2.0, I suppose you and I have very different definitions of "major." In my view, the word “major,” as an adjective, denotes importance and/or significance. Thus, whether something is “major” is defined by its relative importance or significance vis-à-vis things that are “minor” (or, at least, less major).

In light of the foregoing, a cartridge that showed up about 10 years ago, is not produced in commercailly significant quantities (compared to every other cartirdge on the OP's list, including .338 Lapua Mag.) and for which chamberings are only available from a handful of small specialty manufacturers is, by my definition, "minor" (and certainly is not "major"). To be honest, you really have to scrap the bottom of the barrel to think of cartridges that are less important or significant... That's not to say it its capabilities aren't positively badass... but that's a different topic.

EDITED - to remove stupidity. :o

So your goal is to own 100-200 rifles? :innocent0 It's a worthy goal  but I think you are far overstating the number of "major" cartridges there are... perhaps to the point of being ridiculous.

I dont have a goal, I can be perfectly happy with 4 to 8 centerfire rifle calibers. Remember, major calibers vary over time to, 80 years ago .303 savage and .300 savage made the majors now they border on obsolete. Maybe 100 to 200 is a slight exageration but 50 easily. Also commercial or military, its easy to make an argument of 10 to 15 major military rifle calibers alone (.30-06, .30-40 Krag, .30 carbine, 7.62*51, 5.56*54, 7.62*39, 7.62*54r, 7.5 french, 6.5 Jap, 303 british, 8mm mauser, .45-70...........onward).

Oh, sh!t. My bad -- for some reason I was thinking you were the OP. :o Going back to edit... And I will go with 50 (parhaps). But .408 still doesn't make my list.

I used .408 because to my knowlegde it and .416 are the most widely used calibers between .338 and .50, and because it (albeit rarely) has been used in sniper operations. Just like the .338 has been in sniper operations.

However I agree that it is not a "major caliber" in many definitions. but i still like it and want one.

in response to the other suggestions (too many to quote) looks like i have to figure out what to get for a bunch more calibers. thanks for the suggestions

    Rifle goals:

Sharps "Quigley Rifle" in both .45-70 and .45-110.

Another AR 'Flat-top', this time in carbine length, but, I want 1:7 twist heavy barrel.

Remington 700 SA in .223 w/1:9 twist or 1:7 twist barrel. (I might just take my 799 and re-barrel that.)

ETA: Convert one of my K98k Mauser(s) to .338 WinMag.
I'd like to get a Remington 700 in .338 Federal. (I don't know why. I just like the caliber.)
