1960 Colt Police Positive. Love this one. Honest holster wear and shoots great.

I'll admit I've been obsessed with older Colts and pre-lock S&Ws lately. Saw a short frame 1962 Model Colt .38 Police Positive today, a lot like Bossman's, that was extremely tempting but a bit pricy. Almost mint condition, though. Still thinking about that one. :D

Mine is not mint but everyone that has seen it has begged me to sell it to them. Next will be the officer's model .22 to match.

The one I'm looking at is easily 99% and if it was ever fired, it sure wasn't fired all that much. I like the way it feels in the hand. Good trigger and nice tight cylinder lock-up when you pull the hammer back for SA mode. Bore is like a mirror. I may go for it if the seller will come off his asking-price a little.

What loads would you recommend? Obviously, not +P but anything standard velocity gtg?

I have only shot Winchester 150gr round nose through mine. It is accurate and have never had an issue. I would love to see one of these pistols in new condition. I would say buy it if you can. It can only go up in value.

Sent the seller an e-mail right before I read this post to let him know I'd be in Monday to pay for it. I'm not going to beat him up on price (too much) considering its condition, though.

I don't know much about the gun, other than it's out of a retired cop's personal collection, the serial # dates it to a 1962 build date and there's no box or paperwork with it. I've purchased other guns from this (local) seller so I'm not worried about it not being what he says it is. It's too nice to pass-up. I'll post-up a pic Monday.

This isn't it but it's almost identical condition-wise. No wear at the muzzle. Very light, minor scratches in the surface and on the grips from handling. The turn ring on the cylinder is barely visible.

I shot one of MPDC4511's old Colt Police revolvers at Dottrio and I've wanted one ever since.

If the one in the photo is close to the one you are getting you are lucky indeed. That will be worth some cash in the future for sure. It's a shame to not fire it though. I am glad mine is a shooter because I enjoy shooting it. That thing is snappy when firing it!

I am wondering if there is a way to check police department provenance on these guns? Not sure if mine is an old duty gun but it has muzzle wear and cylinder wear on the right side to indicate that it was holstered quite a bit. Mine dates to 1960 and I would love to know if it was an issue gun or not.

    The herd is growing.

I also blame MPDC4511 (in sharing several of his Colt revolvers at the Dottrio meetup) for my interest in Colt revolvers finally moving to the shopping phase.

Still working on my revolver collection, but my 3" Ruger GP100 and my 4" Blackhawk .357 are my favorites. Never thought I'd fall in love with a single action but...here I am.

Unfortunately, couldn't make a deal with the seller today but, as you can see, it's a pretty nice one. Seller wouldn't come down $1 off his asking-price. Plus, I noticed something that I hadn't noticed during my initial examination: when the hammer is pulled all the way back for an SA shot, the cylinder was not completely locking into place. I had to give it a very slight turn to lock it in completely...so, I passed.

That sucks. Beautiful old Colt. Wonder why the lock up was off?

Not sure. Hand needs stretched? Gunked-up from old oil? I'd pay his asking-price for the gun if it was in perfect working condition. I wouldn't shoot it the way it is right now.

I snagged one a few months ago for 300 but it has the black grips. Shoots like a dream. Tiny bit of pitting though from laying in a drawer.

Well I had some of my handguns out so I'll post what I've got. Smith & Wesson 629 classic 44 mag. Ruger Super Redhawk 44 mag. And my Ruger Vaquero in 45 colt.

Wow, you went BIGLY on your first revolver there, Robar35. Don't look directly at it, or you will be nickel-blinded. Love to know how many shekels it took to take possession...

Here we go: The Holy Grail package: A beautiful Smith & Wesson blued Model 19-3 snub nose with 2.5 inch barrel purchased in the late 60s or early 70s, then put in a drawer and never taken out--at least that's the appearance!

The bonus is the original box, but the Holy Grail is the UNOPENED package of S&W cleaning tools.

Picked it up for $450. On GunBroker, the Buy It Now price for a gun in this condition with original box and tools is over $900.
