One of my neighbors has inherited this beautiful and interesting antique. I'd appreciate any help you can offer in identifying what it is, as well as what it might be worth. Thanks in advance!

    Very oversimplified :

    It's a Drilling ( possibly Antique , probably not with the scope mount ) . .

Popular in Europe , particularly Germany and Austria .

Some were imported into U.S. during Interwar era, a bunch were brought home by G.I.s .

Lots of Caliber/ Gage combinations , but 16 x 16 over 8x57R is probably the most cliche .

As biggfoot says, it is a drilling (dri = three).

This one looks like it is two rifle barrels over a shotgun barrel. The extractor appears to be set up for rimmed cases on all three chambers. You would have to cast the chambers or find markings on the weapon to be sure of chamberings for the rifle barrels but a simple measurement should suffice to determine the shotgun barrel gauge.

As to value, no idea without a lot more info (exact chamberings, manufacturing date and who made it) and even then it would be a guess. I'm not an appraiser and most of my focus is on newer stuff. A friend bought one that was 20x20 over 8x56r recently for a few hundred bucks but I've seen guys go absolutely ape shit at Reddings and pay thousands.

    Thanks. Any idea of value?
The biggest problem with drillings, is trying to find out what caliber/ gauge they are chambered in. Here is a good article on the subject.

I have never seen a cheap drilling but I can't give you a ballpark.

Yep its a drilling for sure. Shotgun underneath and dual rifle overtop. Possibly a European caliber

    Where they send me.
Any maker's marks on it at all? Could help to date it some also as the Germans eliminated some of the makers during the war.
Double rifle over a shotgun is less common, usually the other way around.
Having the claw mounts with it is a big plus. 30mm I assume? Scope info?
Chamber markings are likely under the handguard along with lots of proof marks.
Trigger guard and butt-plate horn or plastic? Good shape? Original?

They chambered them in tons of European cartridges, some more popular/available here than others. Likely will have to cast it to know if not marked under the handguard. Pretty sure it was against the rules to chamber them in rimless rounds early on, not sure why but I can see their point. Rimless options came in post war I think due to so many American being there and wanting them (usually) in 30-06.

Button on the side move the rear sight up and down? Safety on the tang?

Shotgun should be easier (if not marked), however, it could be a short EU chamber which hurts it some if it is.

I'll be at the York show next Sunday and am willing to meet up and look it over. NOT an expert (that was my Father who has passed) but spent a lifetime around them, have a few, and know a bit more than others.

Okay, we're done for now. Thanks for all the thoughts and suggestions. I have spoken with Scott's Gunsmithing, and they have agreed to take a look at it to help the current owners identify it, and possibly dispose of it. That's all I am going to do for now.

The current owners are not gun savvy folks but are very good neighbors, so when they asked for help I pretty much had to do what I could. I have passed on the info to them, and am through for the time being. Ball is in their court. Again, thanks everybody for your help. No further into is requested.

If the opportunity presents, more photos of the markings on the underside of barrels/frame would be interesting and perhaps informative. Posting the results of the inquiries would also be appreciated, if possible.

Thanks for the look at an interesting firearm.

FYI I am not in possession of this firearm, nor have I ever actually seen it. You have seen everything that have, and I will gladly post whatever I hear from my neighbor.

I dug into this for a then FFL buddy a few years ago .

One particular brand name imported by a large NYC importer in '20-'30s was going for a little under $1000 for the stripped export model .
