I work for the Federal Bureau of Prisons and our union is raffling off a Colt AR (non HBAR) For a fellow union members son who has medical issues. The majority of our member do not live in Md. but a good many do live in Md. The raffle for this AR goes of in November.
I asked the union officials about the looming Oct 1st deadline for taking ownership of an AR 15 by Md. residents. They claim since we are considered "Law Enforcement" we are exempt from this new ban and can legally take ownership after Oct 1st.
I did a search here and all I could find was this:
New acquisition of any firearm defined as an "assault long gun" would be banned as of October 1, 2013, with narrow exceptions for law enforcement, military duty, manufacturers, certain defense contractors and the like.
What in the world is a "Narrow Exception"? Bottom line is, can I take this rifle home if I win?
