Hey gang. I have the opportunity to purchase a S&W M&P-15T from a Virginia resident. I have read over the new laws in MD and don't see the firearm on the regulated list so I assume I can purchased it directly. Am I assuming correctly?

    Thanks for your wisdom.

    1. It is banned in MD, unless it has a heavy barrel. (HBAR)
    2. It would be a violation of both Federal and State law for you to by a firearm from a resident of another state directly, though you could go through a FFL and do it legally, so long as the rifle is MD compliant.

World this require an FFL on the VA side, and another on the MD side, or could the VA resident bring the firearm to a MD FFL and just do it that way?

Depends on the MD FFL. Ask beforehand. Their store, their rules.

And just to be clear, it doesn't have to be an FFL in either persons' state. You could transfer through a WV or PA or TX FFL. Only stipulation is that the buyer musttake possession at the FFL in person. The seller can ship the firearm to the FFL.
