I picked my 8” Charger up from FFL over last weekend and now I’m considering “best-bang-for-the-buck” (pun intended) options for a really sweet crisp trigger.

I checked the Ruger website and all versions of the BX drop-in trigger are “Out Of Stock” - just as well I suppose as I understand these are very “hit or miss” as far as getting a really light pull and crisp break …

Checked MCARBO but, for $45+ theirs is basically just a replacement trigger (single metal part, no springs etc), one of which I just put in our PC-9 and while a vast improvement over the factory trigger (wow, that from factory was way too heavy!) trigger pull it isn’t anywhere near as light as I’d like for steel challenge …

I checked Volquartsen but, “aye carumba!,” their triggers cost as much as I paid for the Charger pistol itself!!!!!

I might even consider the Volquartsen except this will be a braced pistol which for now are not allowed in Steel Challenge - at least not sanctioned matches anyway.

What other options are there for a 2-lb-ish trigger upgrade for the Ruger Charger that I am missing?

Another question - for verification - is it 100% consistent across the board that any trigger upgrade listed for any Ruger 10/22 will also fit any Ruger Charger?

Asked another way, is the fire control group THE EXACT SAME in a Ruger Charger as it is in a Ruger 10/22?

(Reason I ask is the Volquartsen website calls out a long list of compatibility however glaring in its absence is the Charger …)

IMHO, the BX trigger is not much of a step up from the standard set up. You would be better off to buy components from Tandemcross or Volquartsen if you are looking for a target grade of trigger.

    That was my nephews input.

He has two BX trigger packs and he has let me sho it both.

One is absolutely what I am looking for (2-ish lbs) while the other weighs out 3.5lbs :-(

Bx triggers suffer from the same hit or miss quality that the factory triggers do. You can take it apart, stone and polish surfaces and get a relatively consistent and smooth 2# break, but fair amount of overtravel compared to VQ or Kidd. It's a 10/22 action, so most any aftermarket trigger will fit. I have a $140 VQ action kit and it feels better than the BX, the Kidd action kit feels about the same, maybe a little lighter, about the same price. Most any other drop-in trigger unit is going to be near double the price of the hammer/trigger/sear kits

Also, I have gotten crap for spending more on mods and stamps than the rimfire SBR cost new. Thing is I have spent more time shooting suppressed rimfire SBRs than pretty much any centerfire. I have competed with them, and my kids have competed with them, always bring at least one on every range trip, so well worth the cost IMO. This charger started out as an 8" #4938.

I was hoping to go the drop-in FCG route but, I am more than willing to try either VQ or Kidd components swap / rebuild …

Would that I could use any braced pistol in sanctioned Steel Challengs I’d have no qualms about the $300 (and up) prices for the VQ complete, drop-in assemblies.

I had no idea how addictive braced pistols can be in rimfire!!!

Our 15-22 was our first years ago and that thing is such a hoot on everything from steel to tiny stuff (empty 12ga hulls, broken clay target chunks, dirt clods, etc.) on the target berm that we argue over whose turn it is!

and when a granny showed up at (non-sanctioned) Steel Challenge in SW FL with her 10” braced Charger (photo attached) I just KNEW we’d be getting one (albeit 8”, second photo attached)
