Happened across a New Vaquero at a swell price…now I don’t typically like to do so, but I went ahead and snatched some money out of my savings that I’ll pay back in a couple weeks…

I watched a real nice looking case hardened vaquero go for $750 cash on GB and kicked the dirt.

Then I stumbled across this -

$600 for a really good condition New Vaquero in .45? I felt like I “had” to…

In any event, I have been in good communication with it’s owner in Ohio. We came to an agreement and are going to chat on the phone this afternoon. He likes to talk to the person he is dealing with, as do I, truly! Seems an older feller, nice gentleman.

Sometimes I’m in the right spot at the right time. Hardly often. But this time it lined up!

Came across these guys a while ago and wanted to give them a shot…

Excited to see them, mount them…see how they really do “patina”. Also have 250ct, 255gr SWC freedom seeds moving at 800fps coming. Gotta make empty brass, right?

I’ll post some porn when everything is in my hands. Probably a week or more.

I’m a sucker for a Ruger single action and that looks nice. At 600, I’d splurge. Especially if you have seen the latest MSRP for a brand new one…

Oh and that stocks link looks interesting. Will have to check it out more.

    I'm jealous, looks great.

Seems like Ruger hasn't really churned out SA's since the pandemic hit, guessing they have lower profit margins.

I have a Bisley I got in the 90's. One of my favorite guns. I haven't shot it in a few years. I need to knock the dust off it too.

    Bisleyyyyyy

That is perhaps what this gun will end up as. I plan for this to be my steady for quite some years. I’d love to send it to a Bowen or somewhere in the coming years as I get older. Bisley grip frame, octagon barrel, lower and short action hammer? Maybe some scratching on it at some point. In any event, I see this as my life long project Gun. It’s a good base to start with I reckon.

Thanks all for the kind words. I feel we’re gonna get along like peas and carrots. Plus my SA porn game has been low since I sold my Taylor Tuned smoke wagon (.357).

I have one of those in bright stainless but I really like the looks of that case hardened frame. You will love it!
+1 on having one in bright stainless &
+1 on liking the looks of the case hardened frame

I got mine for ~$800 NIB from a dealer in Georgia a few months back and felt I got a great price based on Ruger's new MSRP. I wanted the stainless cause the warning was printed on the underside of the barrel. Lots of the others had it printed on the side. Ug.

I love shooting the 45 Colt. I'm still zeroing in on a load I like. My first loads were 7.9 gr of Unique behind a 250 gr XTP and they were hot enough my wife didn't want to take her turn. Last trip to the range I had some starter loads using Clay's with 200 and 255 gr coated bullets. Both were more pleasant to shoot and she actually took her turn.

She said it was fun, complained about the sights. She likes "her" FN509 better I think. She definitely likes having the larger grip on the 509 to hang onto.

I wouldn't mind replacing the grips with some that added maybe a quarter inch. But the stock grips are purdy.

You know I’m going to have the same reaction from my wife as well. She shot my .357 SA and didn’t quite “get it” either. She shoots “her” Glock 19 VERRRY well. She shot my .44 just fine! I appreciate you dumping some load info on me! Soon I am going to hook up with our very own Rockzilla as he moves down to SC. Reloading lessons to begin in earnest!

Brent - First, very nice! And a good deal.

If you want to skin that smoke wagon outside Annapolis, let me know.

I haven’t been back to MD in some time! I’ll reflect the offer! If you’re ever in Charleston, we can shoot some single shots and single actions when you want!!

Thanks to this thread I now have a set of American Ivory grips on the way for my 45 colt and my son is looking into a pair
of 357 Vaqueros with consecutive serial numbers. One for him and one for me.
I've spent an awful lot of money since I've discovered Maryland Shooters.

I call those - enabling points! I’ll gladly accept them

Don’t look back, just keep pushing forward, those numbers in your bank account are just guidelines

I happened upon mine awhile back at Cindys before the remodel . 357 for 350$. Nothing wrong with . Great shape ,old Vaquero, used obviously. Has some fancy grips but I would like to come across some regular ole factory grips. Vaqueros for me are cool , would like to have various calibers. I just like them . But then I have to get a matching lever to go with them .

Very nice indeed. I'm personally more fond of the Blackhawks than the Vaqueros but I think you got an excellent deal on a very nice pistol.
