looks cool, I think its a bit heavier then the cc models out there now (average is 14-16 ounces). I dont know if I like the SA. Price point is remarkable.

If it shoots as good as it looks, it will be a big winner for Remington, especially for the asking price.

Personally, I really like the look. The old Remington 51 is highly regarded for ergos, though the mechanicals are a bit complicated - they sorta had to be, to get around Browning's patents. JMB design is hard to improve upon (or maybe impossible).

I've been yearning for a Sig P232 for a long time, but the price (added to the fact it only comes with 1 magazine...) have made me hesitate. I'm going to wait 12 months or so, and if the R51 is still getting good reviews, it will be a no-brainer. 9mm vs .380, in a smaller package, for $200+ less? Like I said - "shut up and take my money!"

FWIW, I think it looks "too retro", almost ray-gun-ish. But the concept and the specs look fantastic.

This almost appears to be Remington's way of kicking glock while their down with the 42 :lol2:

Well, if those are full-size 1911s then the R51 isn't what I'd call a compact. If it were the size of a PPK, then that would be interesting.

Completely agree with the comments on the grip safety. I handled one at SHOT and was confused about why I couldn't pull the trigger. It isn't like the Xd grip safety - you really have to squeeze hard till it clicks. It reminded me of the P7 as well. Didn't feel natural but I don't have any guns with grip safeties.

I am still very interested on the gun. Mag release was convenient, mags dropped free, trigger wasn't bad for a pocket pistol. It was heavy but it is a pocket nine so that might not be bad.

Worst gun I handled at SHOT was the Beretta Pico. Once I got the slide back on an empty mag, I was in big trouble. The slide release is flush - no snag but no way to manipulate it either. And the mag release took a ton of effort and precision pressing to make it work. Can't imagine reloading it under stress.

The new Glock 380 was better than I thought it would be. Made my 26 seem very tubby. But I will still wait for the single stack 9 version. They would be foolish not to make one using the platform.
