So how does it feel with the magazine behind the trigger? Looks like it would be pressed up against your forearm.

In a shooting position it isn't. The LOP is about 13" so when you are in a shooting stance your elbow bends down and away from the magazine. About the only time the mag would hit your forearm is firing from the hip which isnt really recommended because of the location of the right side charging handle. (The op rod rockets back and nails your forearm. And then there is the hot brass issue.) So shooting from the hip is more like shooting from the ribs to keep your arm away from the area where the magic happens.

I have found that the best reload method is to actually keep the weapon shouldered (right shoulder) and lead with offhand palm up the right side of the mag, actuating the mag release with the index finger. This keeps you from over rotating the mag into the grip and is the easiest way of getting to the mag release without dropping the muzzle.

To load is about like loading a regular stocked (stock stocked? :) ) M1A inthat you grab the base of the the fresh mag with the palm against the bottom of the mag and insert it at a slight angle and lever it into place. A slight twist of the weapon during loading helps a bit.

Because of the left side charging handle (one doesn't have to reach around to get to the op rod to charge the weapon when it is empty) a reload takes about the same amount of time as a traditional M1A and could be a mite faster with a little practice. But is not and will never be as easy or fast as an AR.
