Not new to arms or black powder but new to Maryland shooting destinations. Thinking about a Uberti Remington 1858 Navy .36 . Always wanted, recently retired and may finally pull the trigger. Live in Perry Hall but finding nobody allows bp at indoor ranges, not surprised, so can any tell me where i can shoot it before I purchase a paper weight?

    Are outdoor ranges not acceptible?

You're very close to Balt. County Game & Fish. I'm not a member, but took a class there once. Might be a solution for you.

Thanks, when i do search i only get indoor. I will check this.

BCG&F is closest to you and less expensive than the AGC.

Check the Forums interactive firearms map which has most known ranges in the area as well as gun shops, industry partners, etc.

If you want a hands-on for black powder firearms...I'm happy to help, and I'm only down in Essex. Elk Neck is where I shoot, but BP is my specialty. ;) I've a nice Uberti repro Rem New Model Belt Pistol with conversion cylinder if you're chasing one...

Thx, i have a bid on an Uberti Remington New Model 1858 Navy .36. Never been fired. Like new. So far winning.
I looked at BCG&F site, sent email.

Yup, try Baltimore County Game and Fish (outdoor) OR Elk Neck Shooting range (outdoor) in Northeast Md. ( a pleasant 30 mile drive from you).

I'm certain you'll probably need to be a member of BCGFA and I believe there's a waiting list. Elk Neck on the other hand is a public range and is $10 daily. Weekends there get quite busy so weekdays would be better.

I looked into EN. Being over 62 i can get a year pass for $20, and being retired weekdays work for me.
Yall been very helpful. Now lets hope i win the bid. Site says never been fired. Sweet.
Also, plan to road trip soon to that Dixon Muzzleloader shop with my Hawken just see what ideas they may have.
    Again, thanks to all advice.

    Nother question…
Lubed or dry felt wads? Ive read it’s better to use dry and put between powder and ball. Lubed are if you want to put on top of ball.
    What do you experts use?

I don't use them, at all. Powder, ball, bore butter on top....done. Original cap and ball guns and loadings almost never used a wad over powder.

If you like the gun buy it! If you can get it for a reasonable price, better yet.
Anyone who acquires a nice collection usually doesn't shoot them all.
Guns are good investments. Love it, pet it, learn about it, your interest will grow or wane, then sell it for a profit or buy another one!
Black powder is not too complicated but it's a great hobby. Making friends with guys like The Saint will be easy.
Come to the MD Antique Arms Show at Timonium next weekend if you can, see original cap and ball pistols. There was a guy there selling new Uberti's.
Good article here about chain fires:

Wow, where can I get info on the show? Times, etc.
You can go to any range you wish but you can't take that bear with you...
