    Application numbers as of 10/18

On 9/13 it was 94,127 Total Applications
On 9/20 it was 102,001 Total Apps, increase in total of 7,874 in seven days or 1,125 apps per day
On 9/24 it was 106,972 Total Apps, increase in total of 4,971 in 4 days or 1,243 apps per day
On 10/02 it was 117,009 Total Apps, increase in total of 10,037 in 8 days or 1,255 apps per day
On 10/04 it was 117,690 Total Apps, increase in total of 681 in 2 days or 341 apps per day
On 10/11 it was 116,988 Total Apps, a decrease in the total by -702 in 7 days or -100 apps per day??
On 10/18 it was 117,353 Total Apps, an increase in the total by 365 in 7 days or 57 apps per day.

On 9/13 the total processed was 50,653
On 9/20 the total processed was 52,256
In seven days they processed 1,603 applications at a rate of 229 per day (got a lot faster after exposing all our private information NOT)
On 9/24 the total processed was 53,984
In four days they processed 1,728 applications at a rate of 432 per day (big improvement after they read this thread and someone did the math for them)
On 10/02 the total processed was 54,573
In eight days they processed 589 applications at a rate of 74 per day (Oops they are working 21 hours per day so the entire Licensing Division was able to process only three and one half background checks per hour)
On 10/04 the total processed was 54,930
In two days they processed 357 applications at a rate of 179 per day.
On 10/11 the total processed was 58,445.
In seven days they processed 3,515 applications at a rate of 502 per day.
On 10/18 the total processed was 60,504.
In seven days they processed 2,049 applications at a rate of 293 per day.

On 9/13 the backlog was 43,474
On 9/20 the backlog was 49,754
In seven days the backlog grew by 6,280 applications or 897 more per day.
On 9/24 the backlog was 52,988
In four days the backlog grew by 3,234 applications or 809 more per day.
On 10/02 the backlog was 62,436
In eight days the backlog grew by 9,448 applications or 1,181 more per day.
On 10/04 the backlog was 62,760
In two days the backlog grew by 324 applications or 162 more per day.
On 10/11 the backlog was 58,543.
In Seven days the backlog shrank by 4,217 applications or 602 less per day. It would appear the reduction in total number of applications all came from the backlog.
On 10/18 the backlog was 56,549.
In Seven days the backlog shrank by 1,994 applications or 285 less per day.

If no more applications were received after 9/20 it would take 217 days to process the existing backlog at the rate they were working last week.
If no more applications were received after 9/24 it would take 123 days to process the existing backlog at the rate they were working last week.
If no more applications were received after 10/2 it would take 834 days to process the existing backlog at the rate they were working last week. (That is more than a two year backlog!)
If no more applications were received after 10/04 it would take 351 days to process the existing backlog at the rate they were working.
If no more applications were received after 10/11 it would take 117 days to process the existing backlog at the rate they were working and assuming no more applications mysteriously disappear.
If no more applications were received after 10/18 it would take 198 days to process the existing backlog at the rate they were working

After processing 50,000 applications thru 16 databases they found about 30 or 45 guns that had slipped through and they had to get. One wonders how many of those were caught when they were checking the NICS database?

So much for “all hands on deck”.
Interesting each day they work they get 4 days further behind. Each day they receive 5 days worth of work (1,125) and get 1 days work done (229).

Wow in a little over a week the backlog has jumped from 4 months to over 2 YEARS.

It looks like the MSP is focusing their background check resources on the new HQL permits heck with people waiting for firearms already purchased.

Aside from the question of how does the total number of applications submitted go down, the take away from this week is the very volatile nature of the number of applications processed per day it has been as low as 74 and as high as 502. The MSP press release in September stated they have been working 21/7 since December of last year, if we just consider the 284 days from 01/01/2013 through 10/11/2013 the MSP would have only had to process 412 applications per day to completely process the total of 116,988 applications.

The total number of applications as well as the processing rate keep jumping around which raises as many questions as it settles.

Keep them busy keep buying, apply for Designated Collector, apply for HQL, snail mail your questions, etc.

overheard an FFL tell a customer that paperwork came back in 1 day with the new HQL number - ready for 7 day pickup.

I thought up to 7 days was the maximum that a FFL had to wait to release, that if the paperwork came back sooner, they could release sooner. I could be wrong, but it doesn't make sense. (Oops! There I go again.)

The wait is 7 days minimum.

I picked up a rifle today that I purchased on 7/12... it was actually released Thursday, 10/24. 30 more days until I pick up the last of my purchases, and then I suspect I'm done for a good long while.

Did a transfer June 1 .. wasn't really worried as its a associate who works for me. Called today as its going on 5 months Friday.

Woman answers phone and takes ss#. Comes back and says " not sure why paperwork wasn't sent, it was approved in July".

Seriously?! I would have preferred an honest answer like, "We were up to our asses in alligators and this one just slipped through the cracks."

I did two transfers, one in July and one in September, to my son. Never heard anything either.

Interesting... I did a private purchase of a 1911 in May, and got the paperwork in late September, but according to that, it was ND in June. I thought that was weird.

Well, something sure happened. I got my "not disapproved" for a lower purchased Sept 21 on 10/15. I was told by the shop that they split the October 1 ban weapons from the rest, and processed them early, in the hopes of minimizing recalls and that associated problem.

Has it been two weeks since the applications processed page has been updated? I thought it was each Friday. I have a 7/15 purchase. Oh, also I searched for what a secondary review is and can find nothing describing it, anyone care to give a brief description.
