Walk into your local Va gun dealer NOW. Buy AR(s) . Save dated sales documentation that you purchased pre 10/1 .

It won't matter because my move in ready/closing date is after 10/1 which means i can't bring any weapon banned by SB281 regardless of purchase date. In other words the grandfather clause does not apply to me since I'm not a MD resident. I do, however, need to prove I bought my handgun prior to 10/1 in order to have it registered without going through the hassle of HQL and all the other cockamamie nincompoop.

FYI Cockamamie nincompoop is in the auto correct dictionary. who'dathunkit!

    Hey Guys and Gals,
I'm an ex military, intermediate shooter and will be closing on a new build mid October. Can anyone recommend any ranges or clubs that I should look into? I know about Myrtle Grove and that looks ideal for me but I'd like to get more info on other places.

    Thanks!

Here's the list of ranges in your area:

    1) Myrtle Grove - $5.00 a day / $20.00 year

    2) Sanners Lake - won't afford it and must be a "member"

    3) St. Charles Sportsmans Club - won't afford it and must be a "member"

The Sanners Lake and St. Charles memberships are easy to afford. It's not the fault of any club that they can't give you a membership for free just because your awesome.

Remember that you get what you pay for.

    I agree with Mdeng!

SCSC is very affordable, considering MOST clubs/ranges. I've been a member there for 30 years.

We have openings, both "Regular" memberships and "Associate" memberships.

Want to see/hear about an EXPENSIVE range????? One word..... Fairfax.
(I hear that they have a VERY nice facility, though.)

This thread seems soooo upside down and out of sorts. So many people desperately wanting to leave this Godforsaken pinko commie socialist state and others are wanting to voluntarily move here. What's wrong with these people? Don't they know maryland will tax them to death? Here's a tip or two. Do NOT move here the money you'll loose out of pocket for the closing and sorts you'll recoup in a few years by not having to pay the enormous taxes here. Do you know thanks to our liberal POS governor Oh-Mau-Li that maryland is now taxing rain here? If you do move here, get a monitored home security system installed, always keep your home and autos locked at all times, and never walk around in the area of waldorf after dark. But by all means do not move here, you'll thank us later.

Ok, I understand most of you are completely jaded and want to leave Maryland but you can't and your butt hurts from all the pounding it's been taking. If I wanted to hear about how bad and how shitty this place is I would have posted a thread titled "Tell me how much you hate it here." I've got news for you. The grass is always greener on the other side. I've lived in VA most of my life, I lived in Texas for 6 years. I KNOW WHAT I"M GETTING MYSELF INTO and I don't need every disgruntled statesman to tell me not to move here. I've got news for all of you who think moving to VA is gonna solve all of your problems. The dems are taking over here, too. So, instead of whining about this and that, how about you fill a newcomer in on some of your favorite local shooting places.

1st thing Welcome String6guru to Chuck county, not the greatest but taxes are lower and housing can be more affordable then them “nicer” areas of Maryland.

I retired from the Air Force 16 years ago and moved here because of my wife’s family. She has family in Northwest MD, Baltimore and Southern MD, I’m a tourist passing thru from Texas and lived 7 states and 8 countries, everyplace is what you make it.

In Southern MD you have a number of options based on your wallet and attitude.

    I like
Myrtle Grove 8 lanes, $5.00 /$20 a year 100 yd Hand Gun and Rifle outdoors, a bit rustic no RSO but Ranger Dan drops by time to time (good guy).

Maryland Small Arms Range(MSAR) by Andrews AFB $20 all day for two people, 4 ranges 2 Hand Gun and 2 Rifle, big new location opened this year, No RSO, number of good people work there. Very good targeting system and ventilation.

Then there's Fred’s Sporting in Waldorf but here where my wallet and
attitude come in I don’t go there. Then there are a couple private shooting ranges that require membership you have to sponsored and know the secret hand shake. Some people have time for all that.

There are other ranges in Northern and Eastern Maryland that are worth the drive. I like Delmarva Sporting Clays and Rifle range on the Eastern shore it over 100 miles from Waldorf but I try to go a couple times a year.

I think you find MDShooters has a lot of good people that will help you if you have a question, point you in the right direction or get under your skin if your easily rattled. Take everything with a grain salt and cold beer life to short is waste just enjoy it. :o

    See you at the Range

They should reconsider then. 'Cause I am awesome. I also know that these clubs charge how much a year for membership fees and what's the fine print again ? I don't need to find two people who know me to go shoot at Myrtle Grove and I can could go there 7 days a week as well without a membership waiting list. I know that you are some thing of a member at the SCSC, so, your rely was inevitable. I don't blame you for that, but, did you know I am awesome ?

Is that really fair considering Fairfax actually has rifle ranges (up to 300 yards) shotgun, pistol and archery ranges? When are you guys going to get a new setup?

I think it's more than fair.
Back in '83, when I joined SCSC, the dues were $48.00/year.
(I don't recall what the current dues structure is.)
    Fairfax R&G was over $1,000.00/year in '83!!!

At one point in time (in the not-too distant past), we had (**and still have):

    200 yard rifle/pistol range
25 yard dedicated outdoor pistol range
    An 'amphitheater' for USPSA/IPSC competition
    Trap range
    Skeet range
    Sporting Clays range
**25 yard indoor pistol range (still have!)
Archery range (to 30 yards) with a raised platform for practicing angles for hunting from a treestand
Walk-through archery range, set up in the woods, to simulate actual hunting shots/challenges.

    Competitions:
    Trap
    Skeet
    Sporting Clays
IHMSA (International Handgun Metallic Silhouette Association)
NRA Hunter Pistol (Big Bore and Smallbore)
    USPSA/IPSC
    NRA High Power Rifle
    3-D Archery
    Cowboy Action Shooting
    **Junior Rifle Practice/lessons.

We also own 10+ acres in Virginia, that you can camp on, and backs up to a very large piece of hunting land.

We own a very nice, large "Hall", that we rent out.

At one point in time, we had over 4,000 acres of hunting land. (Now being developed for homes.)

At this time, we are looking at purchasing another piece of property for a permanent 'home'.
