Bump to keep this near the top...

If you are of the concern that the petitions will not reach MDPetitions soon enough, you can turn them in directly to your own board of elections office.

Whatever you do...get it done! SCOTUS is proving to be useless in checking out of control legislators and executives.

    Redistricting referendum update:

Congressional map opponents turn in 36K signatures

The effort could snatch a victory from Gov. Martin O'Malley, who is being lauded by his party nationally for creating a map that gives Democrats a good chance of picking up a Congressional seat this fall. And it could give the state's minority Republican party new standing in Annapolis, showing that they can threaten "inside baseball" laws in addition to headline grabbing ones like in-state tuition for some illegal immigrants and same-sex marriage.

Do your part to stop Owe'Malley's march to POTUS and giving Congress yet another socialist vote a la the PRofMD. :mad54:

    SIGN the petition !!!

Is it not too late? I thought it was due Saturday. I was planing on going out to sign sat morning, but got a lil caught up working around the house...

I work in Annapolis so it would be easy to stop and do it on my way outta town if I knew where to go.

Correct ... my bad, but there were other caveats in the story that led me to believe that the Dems are planning on digging in on this. For those who can't view the article.

Even if the state Board of Elections certifies the results, the Democratic party would probably challenge the state board's ruling in court and could get additional signatures tossed.

And should the GOP prevail and defeat the Congressional map, it is not clear that they'd pick up a member of Congress. Democratic leaders in the state would likely re-create a map that gives their party a fighting chance for a 7-1 split in the Congressional delegation.

Democratic leaders would, however, probably feel pressure to unscramble the jumbled lines in the state's left leaning areas of the state.

And, should the Democrats feel genuinely threatened by the new-found GOP power of referendum, they can always change the law and increase the number of signatures needed to trigger a state-wide vote.

In the PRofMD, some things never change ... one of them being 'playing by the rules'. Oh well, just give everyone a cheap 1st place ribbon and they'll be happy.

I love how there was this HUGE push against the same sex marriage act, yet something that directly impacts one's self, is basically a meh...

Citizen: What have you given us Mr. Franklin?
Franklin: A Republic madam, if you can keep it.

My 2 cents... the youth cared about the same sex marriage which was part of the big push.... Redistricting ... I see the "well I get to vote whats the point" coming from those who pushed on the other issue

    Perception is everything ...

It did get enough signatures to make the cutoff for referendum.

The great unwashed in the PRofMD saw it as a 'fait accompli' ... a done deal, just like they've thought so on so many issues in a our one-party state, however ...

When Neil Parrot drove home the illegal tuition referendum, people stood up and took notice. Then came the gay marriage referendum and then the redstricting referedum. Maybe it didn't hit home with the sheeple, but now that it is up for a vote, we need to drive it home just as much as the others.
