The Ruger LCR in 38 Special is not a new comers revolver. Now without lots of familiarization and practice anyway. If one is recoil sensitive it is not the correct revolver. The muzzle flip isn't bad but the recoil goes straight back into the hand. If it is wanted for carry, I would suggest the Ruger SP 101 or a 3 inch J Frame with a set of Pachmyer rubber grips. With 38 Special loads the J-Frame isn't too bad. I've had a 2" M36 and presently have a 3". I Prefer the 3". But again, its practice, lots of dry fire and learning to negate the recoil when shooting it.

Carry considered, the cylinder is the work but not unmanageable. Personally I feel, a 4" Ruger Security Six or 4" K-frame Smith is ideal for casual revolver users but carry will be have to be addressed to stay discreet. Comfort may be challenged. Carried a 3" N-frame a couple times. That cylinder is work.

I endorse Magnumite's first paragraph , and expand it to all the aluminum / titanium/ scandium / etc frames .

SP 101 is absolutely smallest to be more or less sorta practical with full power .357 . With .38 Spl , it's a powder puff .
