Collecting, I would assume that it would have to be a C&R rifle. So I broke into a C&R list and a non C&R collecting list.

    C&R:

    1. M1 Garand
    2. Finnish Mosin 28/76 or M39
    3. FN49
    4. SVT40
    5. SKS
    6. 8mm Mauser (K98 or other variety)
    7. K31 Swiss
    8. .303 Enfield
    9. 1903 Springfield
    10. French MAS 49/56

    Not C&R

    1. AR-10
    2. Barrett .50 Semi-Auto
    3. AR-15
    4. M1A or M14A
    5. AK-47
    6. PSG-1
    7. Dragunov
    8. Cheytac .408
    9. FN-FAL
    10. CETME/G3/HK91

Ok here goes...List your 10 Essential Rifles for Collector Shooters (not multiple variations of the same style rifle though).

    Here's mine:

    AR15 (Any variety)
    AK47 (Any variety)
    Mauser 8mm (98K, 24/47, or M48)
Mosin Nagant 91/30 (round or hex)
    .22lr Bolt Action (any variety)
    Ruger 10/22
    M1 Garand
    1903 Springfield
    Enfield Mk IV No. 1
    SKS (Any variety)

As I'm sure for others this list partially resembles my safe inventory and a few still on my wish list.

    What are your 10?

About the same, an M1 carbine is a must, plus a good lever action and commercial bolt gun.

In filling out the niches in my collection...

Accuracy International AW 308: Small bore precision rifle
McMillian TAC-50 50 BMG: Large bore precision rifle
AR-15 (full size) .223: Service rifle competition rifle
1874 Shiloh Sharps 45-70: Buffalo rifle
    Microtech MSAR .223: Compact carbine
M1 Garand: 30 caliber battle rifle
    Savage 99 (243): Lever rifle
    or
Remingtion 141 (35 Rem): Pump rifle
    10/22 or 77/22: 22 Rifle
    Savage 41 (222 over 20g): Camping/backpacking rifle
Winchester model 70 300WM: N. America hunting rifle

Several FAL's filled the 30 cal battle rifle niche previously, but I felt shameful not owing a M1, so the collection changed a bit. The M1A was fun, but for NM shooting, I prefer a black rifle. Of course I have many other categories to justify my collection, but the topic was top 10...

You guys are so run-of-the-mill. Not to harp on you guys but most of the guns there are easily obtainable and very common. I'd want stuff that's hard to find or at least find in good shape.

    Sharps 1863
Henry 1860, brass frame (.44 Rimfire)
    Holland & Holland Double Rifle (.375 H&H)
    Pedersen Rifle (T1E3)
    Springfield 1903 (w/ Pedersen Device)
    Winchester 1892 [.32-20 or .44-40] or 1894 [.38-55 Winchester] (original, antique era)
    M16E1/M16A1
AK-47 (I'm talking the REAL AK-47, Type 2/A or Type 3/A with milled receiver)
AKS-74/AKS-74U (either one would be fine)
    AN-94

I'm sorry but the Mosin Nagant has no place in my armory. Not to be a snob but I just don't think they're worth the trouble. If I had to pick 10, those above would be it. Not counting SMGs, not counting machine guns (belt fed types, I have 10 of those I want lol). The ones I picked were designed as rifles, to be used as rifles.

Ah, missed that. Trouble? I guess the dislocated shoulder one gets when firing one could be considered trouble, but they are a remarkably simple rifle, very accurate and the are practically indestructible!

    Jamie

Limbsaver is an essential accessory for long durations of fire, but it is a great and accurate rifle. Love mine and shoot it frequently.

    Had to think about this...

No Class III stuff yet, but it's a start. It's also the reason you'll see me out by the roadside, begging for money to eat at McDonald's...! I guess a man's got to have his priorities straight, right? :-)

    DSA G1 FN-FAL 7.62 NATO
JLD PTR-91 with retracting stock 7.62 NATO
    Knights Armament Company SR-15 M4 5.56 NATO
Armalite Sterling AR180 with folding stock 5.56 NATO
    M1 Garand 30-06
    M1903-A3 30-06
    M1 Carbine .30
    SMLE Ishpour (sp?) 7.62 NATO
    Mauser KAR98 7.92
    Ruger 10/22 .22LR

I'd like to get my paws on a Beretta BM-59 or Fulton Armory M14 but...bills and more bills keep getting in the way. :sad20:
