anyone know the St. Mary's requirement (if there is one, or they follow MD state laws) regarding how far away from buildings you have to be? I cant find it anywhere. We are looking at a house that has 6 acres, and in the back there is enough room for 100-150 yrd range...just have to clear some trees.

I believe rules for Maryland are 150 yds from any roadway or building(other than your own).

150 yards in all directions? My backyard is about 120 feet from a private road, but the nearest building in the direction in that backyard in which I might shoot is well over 150 yards.

It would be helpful to see the statute or regulation...

This specifically for Mont. county. have not found the state wording yet.
"A person must not discharge fixed ammunition from any rifle
or pistol except at legal game or varmints on the ground or at a safe
target which is on or near the ground and will not deflect a bullet.
A person must not discharge a gun onto, across, or within 50
yards of a public road. A person, other than the owner or occupant,
must not discharge a gun within 150 yards of a building or camp
designed for human occupancy without the owner or occupant’s
written consent, or shoot, from, onto, or across public or private
land without the owner or occupant’s written consent."
