Hey neighbors,
Please keep an eye out on your property for things like plastic water bottles, or any other items that aren't yours that mysteriously show up either overnight or while you're at work. Apparently, this is how theives in the area are casing houses to determine whether you're home or out of town.
They come up and place something like a water bottle or some other simple garbage item on your doorstep or somewhere obvious like that where you're sure to see it, and like any garbage, throw away. Then they come back in a day or two and if the item is still there, they know that you're out of town and your house is ripe for the pickings.
Over the last week, we've found four small Deer Park Water bottles. Three were on and around our front porch, one was on top of our AC unit in our fenced in back yard. That one was worriesome since the AC unit is right next to our bedroom window and it was definitely NOT there the night before.
A couple weeks ago, we had a "solicitor" knock on the door and try to sell my wife on some cock and bull carpet cleaning deal or something, he wouldn't really explain what it was. My wife told him that we weren't interested, at which time I came to the door to see who she was talking to. He snatched the pamplet out of her hand and stormed through the flower garden, across the yard, and got back in his car (a grey colored early-mid 90's sedan) and drove off. It seemed weird at the time, since he didn't seem to go to any of the other houses on the street. Just ours.
Fast forward to today after having found several water bottles on our property, as my wife is leaving she sees the same guy with the same car, drinking from the same kind of water bottle we've been finding.
That was suspicious enough to make her call the police and confrm that yes, this is something that theives do in order to determine who is and isn't home. She also mentioned the solicitor, and gave them a description of the car. They said they've been looking for him, and asked us to call if we saw him again.
So just to reiterate, if a taller, thinnish olive/tan skinned man with dark curly hair driving a gray POS sedan comes to your door, or if you start finding water bottles or things like that around your doors, porch or on your property that definitely are not yours, keep an eye out.
I just wanted to share this info with people that live in the area.
