I am an idiot, i never heard of them before. The shape of the head is what made me do it really. Plus it's location to my house. If you guys search youtube for one you will see how they will mimic a venomous snake head.

It's a harmless snake. It goes through all sorts of mimics and hisses to scare predators. If that doesn't work it plays dead.

I learn that after the fact. I am a animal pacifist for the most part. Live and let live, unless you are near my house and are venomous you will be left alone. Heck i seen some black snakes and Gadsden ones around the yard and i just leave them be.

I even stopped my father in law when he wanted to kill one because it was close to the house till i told him they just eat the mice and frogs and are harmless.

Never understand why people kill snakes like they do. Even venomous ones, a copperhead doesn't want anymore to do with you than you it. My great uncle has black snakes in his house all winter long. It would be rude to put them out in the cold. I'm not sayin everyone needs to house them, but no nead to kill them. I've even drug them out of roads before so they don't get run over.

I never knew that. I accidentally killed one in my backyard in Bel Air a couple of years ago. :innocent0 The snake in question may have been where my kids play. I am absolutely positive that is what it was, confirmed it was a pit viper on post mortem. Generally, I like snakes. I have a Corn Snake (name is Smithers). Hognose are an odd looking snake, and not seen very often. They tend to be very docile and make good pets. Glad you took the time to learn what you saw. Next Hognose should get off easier......

I'll agree with you (to a point).I have kids and pets and neither one will be put in jeopardy for a snake.Very few deaths have been attributed to copperheads, but I will not take a chance.

Agree. Copperheads do not cause many deaths, but a bite can cause a good bit of trouble. I don't want my kids/dogs getting bitten.

Because us snake haters DON'T LIKE THEM? I bought MY property, the snake didn't. Do you kill game or fish?
